We are sure you’ll agree that the new 2010-2011 Performing Arts Series at Stephens
Auditorium will astound you!
This season is filled with great ways to spend time with family and friends and enjoy
yourself close to home. From the spectacular production ofMammaMia! toWilliam
Inges’ dramatic comedy Bus Stop performed by theMontana Repertory Theatre to the
amazing harmony of SWEETHONEY INTHEROCK®, holiday music and so much
more, take a quick glance at this brochure and you’ll see what I mean.
When you buy tickets to three or more shows (and I am sure you’ll find at least three you
just can’t resist!) you’ll not only save and get a host of Subscriber benefits, you will also
be able to select two free tickets to one of the shows designated in the brochure.
I want to emphasize the importance of becoming a donor to the performing arts. While
ticket sales are an extremely important component to the overall financial health of
presenting these wonderful and exciting performances, becoming a donor helps us
do so much more. Contributions help us expand the programming choices, introduce
our young people to the excitement of a live performance and build audiences for the
future. You can become a donor by designating your gift to the performing arts on
the brochure order form, or you may visit the Iowa State University Foundation
website at www.foundation.iastate.edu and make a gift or pledge to the annual fund.
You may also consider increasing your commitment to the arts by making a gift to the
Performing Arts Endowment.
Whether you’re a long-time Subscriber or you are new to Stephens
Auditorium, I personally welcome you to our phenomenal facilities. All of
us at the Iowa State Center are thrilled to bring you this new season,
and we look forward to seeing you at Stephens Auditorium!
Sincerely,
Mark North, General ManagerIowa State Center

Standout swing band
BIGBADVOODOODADDYSunday, October 24, 20107:30 p.m.
$31.90 and $28.50 – Subscribers$37 and $33 – Non-subscribers
$25 – 18 & under | $20 – ISU Students
If you love the irresistible energy of
swing music, you are in for a huge treat when the
multi-platinum swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy takes the stage at Stephens.
A singular standout among the numerous bands that launched the Swing revival of
the 1990s, BBVD takes its name from an autograph by blues legend Albert Collins.
The band’s eighth studio album, “How Big Can YouGet? A Tribute to Cab
Calloway”, is a rowdy, high-voltage celebration of musicianship, feel-good energy
and fun. Their mixture of original dance tunes, big-band music and classics like
“Minnie theMoocher” offer the perfect antidote for tough economic times, just like
Calloway’s music in the Depression era.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has performed for three
U.S. presidents and has sold out shows at the
Hollywood Bowl,Walt Disney Hall, and
Lincoln Center. They’ve rocked the house
at the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late
Night with ConanO’Brien. We dare you
not to jive in your seat when you hear these
masters of swing take Stephens to a place
it’s never been before.

An uproarious newmusical “whodunit”
LEMONYSNICKET’S
THECOMPOSER ISDEAD
Tuesday, March 8, 2011 | 7:30 p.m.$24.25 – Subscribers$28 – Non-subscribers$18 – 18 & under | $15 – ISU Students
It’s curtains for everyone when The
Composer is Dead hits theaters for the
first time!
Renowned children’s author Lemony
Snicket (A Series of Unfortunate Events)
and composer Nathanial Stookey have
created a new, hilarious and thrilling
musical mystery that is an enchanting
delight for all ages.
A conductor has met an untimely finale,
and every member of the orchestra is a
suspect in the murder. TheComposer is Dead is a musical
“whodunit” for the Inspector to figure out—and also an
educational look at all the instruments and musicians who
make up an orchestra.
Played by actor/writer/comedianGeoff Hoyle, who appeared
as “Zazu” inDisney’s The Lion King on Broadway, the Inspector
interrogates the entire orchestra, starting with the strings and working his way to the
percussion. Joining him onstage are beautifully crafted marionettes that help tell the
tale and find out “whodunit”.
We are delighted to have this all-new production visit Stephens on its first national tour.
One thing is certain: No one leaves the auditorium until the mystery is solved!

A lot can happen in a single night—especially at a streetcorner restaurant in a small
Midwestern town where a busload of stranded passengers waits out a snowstorm.
The acclaimedMontana Repertory Theatre (who brought us To Kill AMockingbird)
returns to Stephens withWilliam Inge’s hit comedy Bus Stop. When the down-home,
seemingly ordinary characters reveal extraordinary qualities, romance blossoms and
love banishes loneliness.
It’s a warm, all-American story and “an uproarious comedy that never strays too far
from the truth,” says TheNewYork Times.
“Bus Stop shows that our lives are truly intertwined; we affect each other in subtle and
profound ways as we go about our daily lives,” saysMontana Rep artistic director Greg
Johnson. “Few playwrights are able to make the everyday universal and the
commonplace the stuff of great theater. Inge is one of these playwrights.”
