• Hitler did not approve of his dreamlike paintings.
• Wrote a book about WWI titled Diaries: 1898-1918
Influence of the Art World
• Part of Expressionism, Surrealism and Cubism movements
• Surrealism is where Klee shows his dreams in his paintings
• Cubism is found in almost all works, where there is a background of different colored squares.
• Klee’s art is very similar to the art of a child.• Taught at the Bauhaus school of art• Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Munich
Stylistic Traits• Surrealism: feature the element of surprise,
unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact.
• Cubism: objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics.
• Primitivism: looks like art that is done by a child. Usually the picture is painted very simply, and the subjects are "flat", or two-dimensional.
• Simple Lines

My Original Artwork
Conclusion
• My artwork shows the examples of Cubism in the background, Primitivism in the stars, Surrealism in the moon, and simple lines in the building.
• I have learned that Klee painted in layers of colors.
• The most difficult part of the project was to decide what to paint.
• My artwork has a strong background with different colors and a star lit night scene.
• The weakness of my artwork is the scene, because it was very difficult painting over layers.
