►Shows the reader direction for the map.
►A compass rose shows the cardinal directions of north, east, south, and west.

►Mapmakers draw things smaller than they really are.
►To make the map accurate by showing how actual size compares to the drawn size
Scale examples
►Scales are used on maps to measure distance.
Latitude Lines running parallel to the equator. They are measured in degrees north or south of the equator.
Longitude Lines running pole to pole parallel to the Prime Meridian. They are measured in in degrees east or west of the Prime Meridian.
