APRIL 14, 2019 PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD
A VIEW FROM THE PEW
Don’t Fail to Find God
One of the lessons of Holy Week is that God draws grace and
goodness out of any situation — even one that to us looks like a
complete failure. God uses all of what is — every person’s
strength and weakness, every experience, encounter, accident,
war or act of kindness, natural beauty or disaster — to make
visible God’s love and sustaining presence in the world. The
psalmist put it this way: “For darkness is as light” to God. The
message of Holy Week is one for the entire year. Make a habit
of looking for the ways God redeems our “failures.” See how
grace abounds.
In Observance of Good Friday, the parish office will be closed
on april 19, 2019
(there will be no masses on this day)

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
When we reflect on the love behind the many gifts and
blessings that fill our lives — love that is God — we may
be struck speechless. How can we possibly say “thank
you” to God for all we are, have, and will be?

Friday of the Lord’s Passion
It is finished — and it has just begun
We can look high and low but we will not find a
Catholic Mass celebrated anywhere on this day.
There is a Good Friday service, to be sure, but there
is no Mass. However, we will gather in churches
throughout the world to hear scripture tell of the
trial, death, and burial of Jesus. We will pray the
prescribed prayers of intercession. We will walk in
procession to venerate the cross. And, on this second
of the three sacred days this week that are known as
the Triduum, we will receive the Eucharist,
consecrated at the Mass of the Last Supper the night
before. On this day of prayer and remembrance, do
one thing to imitate the love and compassion of
Jesus.

Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil
A vigil for the ages
The Easter Vigil Mass we celebrate has not
always been popular, having been an institution
in the early centuries of the church, falling from
practice in the Middle Ages, and then re-
emerging around Vatican II. Today this
“mother of all vigils” (as St. Augustine called it)
moves people through its intense symbolism of
fire, light, dark, incense, and song. The Easter
Vigil reminds us that faith isn’t just an idea; it
is a full-body experience and way of life.
Whether or not you attend the Easter Vigil, you
can allow your faith to be a full-sensory experi-
ence, perceiving God in touch, song, aroma, and
beauty.

Easter Is April 21..Only A Week Away
Have we reached out to someone the Lord is asking us
to visit, call or listen to?
Is there someone we need to forgive today?
Are there folks in our lives we keep ignoring or treating
rudely?
Do we allow the same people to “push our buttons”
over and over again without looking deeper into our
soul for the answer?
Have we prayed for the priest with whom we don’t
agree?
What relative hurts us the most?
Shall we pray together for the leading of the Holy Spirit
during these last days before Easter?
The empty tomb!! That’s what it’s all about!
EASTER EGG HUNT Calling bunnies of all ages and their parents, families and friends!! Please join us for the Annual Mary, Star of the Sea Easter Egg hunt at 9:30 am on Easter Sunday, April 21, on the lawn. A special parents division (and prizes) will be added this year — can’t wait to see it!

SCHOOL NEWS
Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center
Montessori Cosmic Education from Preschool through Kindergarten
Montessori Cosmic Education is a cornerstone of the Montessori Philosophy. At its core,
Cosmic Education tells the story of the interconnectedness of all things. It describes the role
of education as comprehensive, holistic, purposeful and which encompasses the develop-
ment of the whole child within the context of the universe.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that Cosmic Education was vital to early education because
it provides children with a framework to understand the world and their place within it.
Children learn to respect studies of the past, develop an understanding of ethics, and value
the contributions of others. In this way, Cosmic Education teaches children to become
aware of the interdependence of all things, and develop a sense of gratitude that comes from
that awareness.
Within the Montessori classroom, Cosmic Education forms a platform for teaching children
to understand the natural world through nature and the connectedness of all living things.
Cosmic Education also includes the study of history, culture, geography, the world, the
universe and the fundamental needs that all humans share. ELC students recently learned
about the continent of Africa.
