Union School Marching Bandaccompanied by a cadre of youthful batontwirlers. Makala Perkins rode her ponyand John Gordon drove his poweredparachute. Numerous groups, floats,politicians and emergency vehiclescontributed to a nice parade. HaroldPuffer and his family rode on a 1938 fireengine.

Chicken pie and all the trimingswas served to 800 people by theCommunity Club.

A Hymn Sing at the MethodistChurch ended the celebration for the day.

olors were brilliant in and aroundGroton on Fall Foliage Day,

October 7th. A large crowd enjoyedthe day visiting with old friends andmeeting new ones.

The day started with theLumberman’s Breakfast at the UnitedMethodist Church where 350 hungry“leaf peepers” were fed.

Local people displayed theircrafts and wares at many places alongmain street for visitors to peruse andpurchase.

The Historical Society hadOpen House all day and entertainedvisitors with pictures and informationabout Groton. Nathan Puffer and hiscrew of volunteers demonstratedTimber Frame Construction with handtools from 10AM to 5PM. Theyended the demonstration with theerection of the timber frame for afuture blacksmith shop at RussellButler’s next door to the HistoricalSociety.

Russell plans to demonstrateblacksmithing next year during fallfoliage day.

McLure’s Alumni Bandplayed a concert at the Band Standbefore the parade and Dan Gandin’sGalusha Hill Gang played after theparade.

The parade started at 1:30and featured The Blue Mountain
