Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Advent, the beginning of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church, is a season
of hope. We are called to prepare our hearts in prayer and expectation both
for the annual celebration of the event of Christ's birth, and for the second
time when Christ will come again. During this season, we also focus on the
Gospel virtue of Charity: “Ubi Caritas et amor, Deus ibi est,” which means:
Where there is charity and love, God is there. As Catholic Christians, we can
practice charity by feeding the hungry, comforting the sick, providing drink to
the thirsty, comforting the poor and many other charitable works. At OLA, we
will contribute our November Dress Down Day donation to Our Lady of the
Assumption Church in gratitude for all the spiritual services we receive from
Rev. Fr. Ben and his staff.
Thank you to all the parents who attended the parent-teacher interview in
November. Hopefully, you had the opportunity to compliment your child on
the positive areas. Let your child know that you and the teacher plan to help
him/her improve and succeed in school. Teachers work hard but progress
takes time. Hence it is important for parents to maintain on-going
communication and work closely with the teacher.
Once again, Ms. Le Blanc and her grade 7 students are organizing the annual
Christmas Bazaar on Thursday, Dec. 13th. The Bazaar gives our primary and
junior students an opportunity to purchase gifts at discounted prices for their
siblings and parents.
Kindergarten registration for 2019 -2020 commences on January 16, 2019.
Please forward this information to family and friends. For more information
please check the Toronto Catholic District School Board website:
www.tcdsb.org
On behalf of the staff and faculty at OLA, may Christ fill your heart with his joy
and peace.

Guidance
Corner December Grade 8 students
have been working with the AFTER8
Transition Guide to gather
information about different aspects
of high school such as: The Credit
System, Course Types, Timetables
and Special Programs. The more
information students have before
going to high school, the easier the
transition becomes. Talk to your Gr.
8 child about their fears and
anxieties that they are having about
going to high school, and help them
gather as much information as
possible. Your Parent Transition
Guide is filled with helpful
information to answer many of
your questions. Here are some
helpful tips to deal with
stress/anxiety:
1. Encourage your child to face his/her fears, not run away from them.
2. Tell your child it is okay to be imperfect.
3. Focus on the positives.
4. Schedule relaxing activities.
5. Model approach behaviour, self-care, and positive thinking.
6. Reward your child’s brave behaviours.
7. Encourage good sleep hygiene.
8. Encourage your child to express his/her anxiety.
9. Help your child to problem solve.
10. Stay calm.
11. Practice relaxing exercises with your child.
12. Never give up! To read these helpful tips in more detail please go to: https://tinyurl.com/y7heacla
Also, Intermediate students have
been working on their Individual
Pathways Plans on My Blueprint
(myblueprint.ca/tcdsb). Students
are currently completing their
online surveys to learn more
about themselves. They are able
to explore their learning style,
personality, interests, knowledge
and motivation. Lastly they are
able to start thinking about the
future by seeking out and learning
more about careers of interest.
Ask your child to show you their
survey results and portfolios. Ms.

PRESTO Cards for TCDSB Students
Over the past few weeks the
Toronto Catholic District School
Board and the Toronto Student
Transportation Group have been
working closely with the TTC on
the logistics for providing
complimentary PRESTO cards to
all students ages 6 to 12 (child
cards) and 13 to 19 (youth cards).
The purpose of this initiative is to
help students smoothly make the
transition away from TTC passes,
and tickets, to the PRESTO
electronic fare card. Please note
that the TTC will stop selling
tickets and tokens on August 3,
2019. The TTC is providing the
PRESTO cards to school boards
free of charge.
More information to follow soon.
