were also capable of establishing colonies in outlying
areas of Federation territory. Based on the successful Ptolemy-

CONTAINERS
Cumberland-class
Mississippi-class
In 2233, Starfleet commissioned a variety of containers to
be used with their fleet of transports and tugs.
The Cumberland class was a generic shell designed to
house various types of transported goods:
Mark I Containers were designed for shipping liquids and
gasses.
Mark II Containers were designed for shipping dry bulk
(grains and the like).
Mark III Containers were designed for shipping items
needing various degrees of refrigeration.
Mark IV Containers were designed for shipping people,
personnel and animals.
Mark V Containers were designed for shipping goods,
modules, components, parts and other products.
Originally, only the Mark IV containers had sensor dishes
and impulses engines. The rest were intended to be reliant
on tugs and transports. Unfortunately, several accidents
resulted in the addition of command and control centers,
impulse engines, deflector dishes and a crew to all
Cumberland-class containers, regardless of type.
In the mid 2270’s, Starfleet made the decision to move
toward even larger crews on their containers, and a large
bridge module was attached to the top rear of each of the
new Mississippi-class containers.
All surviving Cumberland-class containers were refitted as
Mississippi-class containers.
Containers are numbered using the following scheme:
Mark I Containers ........................................... NCC-C1000
Mark II Containers .......................................... NCC-C2000
Mark III Containers ......................................... NCC-C3000
Mark IV Containers ......................................... NCC-C4000
Mark V Containers ......................................... NCC-C5000
On occasion, containers are named by their crews, but
these names are not sanctioned by either Starfleet
Command or Starfleet Transport Command, and are
therefore not considered official.

EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE CRUISERS
In 2270, two starships were commissioned for construction
under the starship development program. While both
prototypes were completed, neither ship fulfilled
expectations, and both were dry-docked following their
unsuccessful shakedown cruises.
During the Kelvan War, both ships were reactivated and
dispatched on two missions. The Hyperion was sent on a
deep reconnaissance mission into the Beta Quadrant. It
was presumed lost with all hands until a long-distance
probe discovered it in NGC-2548. In 2295, the Enterprise-
B was sent on a rescue and recovery mission, and learned
that the Hyperion had fallen victim to a squad of Kelvans.
The ship was made operational by a landing party, and
was returned to Federation space. In 2296, Captain Penda
Uhura was named as her first captain.
The ship is presently assigned to the Sixth Fleet, on patrol
and exploration assignments in the Beta Quadrant.
As to the fate of the Kooblen, Starfleet Intelligence has
classified the matter, and its whereabouts are unknown.
Its crew is considered as missing in action.
