ORDER OF WORSHIP
Summer of Love
MEDITATION - Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for
the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The
commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; you shall
not murder; you shall not steal; you shall not covet”; and
any other commandment, are summed up in this word,
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a
neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

*CALL TO WORSHIP –
Pastor Bernhardt: “Who is my neighbor?” a teacher once asked
Jesus.
People: Jesus replied with a story about a priest and Levite who
passed by a person in desperate need and a compassionate
Samaritan who stopped and rendered aid.
Pastor Bernhardt: Then Jesus asked a question, “Which of these
three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the
hands of the robbers?”
People: The teacher replied, “The one who showed him mercy.”
Pastor Bernhardt: May we “Go and do likewise” for our neighbors
here and around the world.
*OPENING HYMN “This Is My Song” No. 437
OPENING PRAYER (Inspired by Paul’s sermon in Athens, Acts 17:26-27)
Liturgist: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Liturgist: Let us pray together.
People: O God, you made from one, all nations to inhabit the whole
earth. We are neighbors by your creation. As we search for you and
find you, for you are indeed not far from each one of us, may we
find one another and connect in the love which you have given to
us. Help us to discover today the blessing of your Son’s command
that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Amen.

THE CONGREGATION’S PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, forgive us for those times when we have not loved our
neighbors and chosen, instead, to serve ourselves. We confess we
are inclined to draw circles which leave many on the outside. Open
our eyes to see all the people around us as you see them. Open our
hearts to serve everyone as Jesus served those around him.
Empower us to be the ones who draw the circles ever larger to draw
everyone into your family. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
