Orcas Island Public Library
Summer Reading Program
How the Summer
Reading Program Works
Kids from preschool age through 6th grade may register for the reading program. Adults may read to preschoolers who can’t read on their own yet. The reading program runs from June 21st– August 15th. Children may register at the Li-brary beginning on June 17th.
READING RECORDS: At registration, each child will get a reading record for keeping track of their reading (or the books that are read to them). Families keep the reading rec-ords (we don’t store them at the library). Kids fill in the circle on each day they read at least 20 minutes, then bring reading records to the Library to col-lect “LIBRARY DOLLARS”. Library dollars may be used to “BUY” new paperback books at the library from the SRP Book Store.
Children may purchase a maximum of
4 books (one per week), but are en-couraged to continue reading through-
out the summer.
THE LAST DAY TO ADD TO YOUR READING RECORD IS SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th.
THIS YEAR’S CHALLENGE: Earn one library dollar for each
day you read AT LEAST 20 minutes!
