BioWin was created in July 2006 and today is the key reference in the field of health biotechnology and
medical technologies in the Walloon Region, in Belgium. The cluster brings together Walloon players
who are involved, at every stage, in the research, development and production of innovative products
and services: academic and clinical research laboratories, accredited research centres, large industrial
groups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), service providers, engineering colleges and
universities, business incubators, investors, policy makers and associated bodies.
BioWin seeks to support Wallonia in implementing its strategy aimed at achieving international
recognition for the excellence of its academic, clinical and industrial research environment in the field
of health technology and medical technologies. BioWin’s industrial members represent a wide range
of expertise encompassing a diverse array of technologies and activities. The industrial ecosystem is
supported by more than seventy specialized service companies (CMO, CROs, biomanufacturing,
biology...).
BioWin focuses on six technological (smart-specialization) target areas for which the Walloon region
has a critical mass of global players:
bio pharmacy
cell therapy
radiation applied to health
medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics
bio manufacturing
data science.
BioWin contributes to the emergence and development of research of excellence in the Region, with
the aim of creating jobs and ensuring the economic attractiveness of Wallonia. In 12 years, the cluster
has managed to federate the actors of health innovation in the Region and to ensure the international
visibility of the pharma, biotech and medtech Walloon ecosystem.
