One is alarge V125 positivedisplacement flowmeter, theother a small LF05 VFF meter. The order was placed for eachmeter to be built to a degree ofcustomisation that could not be matched by other suppliers workingon the topside element of the project. Performance and contribution
A powerful water-jetting unit, manufactured and supplied byUK specialist manufacturerHughes Pumps that uses asmart innovation, is said to behelping deliver essentialcorrosion preventionmaintenance to a semisubmersible offshore drillingrig that works extensively inthe harsh North Sea, UK environment. The Stena Spey is a self-propelled, semi-submersible, offshore drilling rig based in Aberdeen, and as with all offshore assets, requires constant maintenance to prevent corrosion. The Hughes Pumps Ultrabar 10unit is being used to strip corrosion and failed coatings from the rig structure usingplain water. The Hughes Pumps system comprises; Ultrabar 10 EC UHP water jettingunit with a performance of 8.3lpm at 2500bar (2.2gpm at 36,000psi). 45kW (60hp)electric motor and starter panel for use in a safe area, crash-frame mounted, 1.8mlong x 1.0m wide x 1.5m high x 1100kg (71” x 39” x 59” x 2,420 lb) - probably themost compact UHP pump set on the market. Hughes Pumps Ltd +44 (0)1903 892358 www.hughes-pumps.co.uk
Drill rig maintenance
A traditional maintenance check for a rupture disc device requires the plant to be fullyde-pressurised and for processes to be completely stopped, while each disc is removedfrom its holder and inspected. This system downtime can cost companies thousands inlost production during every maintenance check, particularly in lucrative industries likethe oil and gas sector. Elfab says significant time and cost savings are now beingrealised by its customers through the use of its low-cost, portable, ATEX-approved Test-Tel tool. Said to offer a simple and cost-effective means of checking the status of boththe rupture disc and the associated burst detection system, this part of the maintenanceschedule can be completed without having to shut down the entire process. Elfab Ltd +44 (0)191 293 1234 www.elfab.com
