Oak Grove Mission Statement
Our mission is to glorify God through worship, bring people to faithful
discipleship in Christ, equip them for ministry in the church and the
world, and grow in our love for one another through fellowship.
FROM YOUR PASTOR
What a great Advent and Christmas we had this year! Despite
a lot of sickness which kept some of our congregation from at-
tending all the services, overall we had good attendance and
the services and activities were a blessing.
We participated in the Walkertown Christmas Parade and
Love’s UMC Community Tree Lighting. We enjoyed Advent
Family Night. We went Christmas caroling and band caroling.
We served lovefeast at Arbor Acres, Trinity Glen, and the Res-
cue Mission. We enjoyed the Children’s Christmas Program.
The circles and Sunday School classes had parties. The choir
presented a lovely cantata “Shout the Good News.” And then
the Christmas Eve Lovefeast and Candle Service was excep-
tional this year.
Overall, I think 2012 was a good year for our church. We en-
joyed celebrating our 125th anniversary. We had meaningful
worship services. We participated in outreach and ministry.
We started a weekly Youth Fellowship.
Now we begin another year. What will 2013 bring? We don’t
know for sure, but we do know that God will be with us no
matter what happens. In 2013 let us promise to trust God in
everything and to be faithful to Him. Let us give God the very
best of our time, talent, and treasure. May we be active in our
church attendance, including worship, Sunday School, Bible
study, and Youth Fellowship. May we serve Him in all that we
do and be an example to everyone around us. Let us work to-
gether in building up our congregation at Oak Grove and the
greater body of Christ. May the love and light of Christ shine
in each of us.
Happy New Year and I’ll see you in church,
Matthew

READ THE STORY. EXPERIENCE THE BIBLE.
Make it a Happy New Year! Make Wednesday night Bible Study your New Year’s Resolution.
Oak Grove is so excited to introduce a new Bible Study titled,
“THE STORY”!
Our Moravian motto:
In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty,
In All Things Love.
Our church family united in one common Bible study truly is an
ESSENTIAL.
Beginning January 9, 2013, carpool, unite for supper dates, invite your friends, whatever it takes to encourage one another to come out on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for ages 6 – 106! If you have a child in kindergarten or younger, be sure to bring them to Sunday School where they too will learn THE STORY in the same order as the Wednesday evening group.

JANUARY 2013
“Stewardship is how we manage what God has given us
in this life.” We are each meant to consider whatever we
have as gifts from God and to be good managers of those
gifts. We each have bodies, brains and talents and time to
use all of those gifts to glorify God. Good stewardship
involves good management of the totality of God’s gifts
to us.
An elderly pastor tells the story of a parishioner in a
church he was serving. The man took giving and serving
the Lord seriously. If anyone asked him why he was so
dedicated to using his talents, time, and money for the
Lord’s work, he would smile and answer by saying: “The
Lord has allowed me to have time, talent, energy, and a
good income. If I don’t use my assets in the right way,
God may stick out his foot and trip me. Then I might lose
it all.”
He meant his answer to be funny, of course. But it
does show that the fellow knew where his time, talent,
and financial resources ultimately came from. They came
from our loving Creator whose blessings are showered
daily upon each of us.
Remember that Jesus said to his followers: “You are
the light of the world.” He continued by saying “Let your
light shine before others, so that they may see your good
works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew
5: 3-16) Should we not let our lights shine to glorify our
loving Creator?
Prayer: Almighty and loving God, every good gift we
have has come from you. Keep us mindful of your care
for us and your desire for us to use our minds, bodies, en-
ergy and resources to bring light and truth to this often
suffering world. Through Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen

A Stewardship Moment
Do you sometimes wonder if God hears your prayers? Do you ever ask yourself, “What is the point of pray-ing”. Do you long to experience the power of prayer in your daily life? The Women’s Bible Group is studying a book entitled,
“The Essentials of Effective Prayer”.
The group meets monthly on the sec-ond Saturday of each month in the Margaret Hammock Class at 10:00 am. Please join us as we learn the key principles of prayer and gain a deeper understanding of how prayer can draw you closer to His heart.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR LOCAL SCHOOL
During the month of January we will collect
school supplies for the children at Middle Fork
Elementary School. Please place any of the fol-
lowing supplies in the box on the Fellowship Hall
Stage no later than Sunday, January 27, 2013.
