MAJOR STEPS IN NURSERY MAJOR STEPS IN NURSERY ESTABLISHMENT ESTABLISHMENT
1. Site selection -has a major effect on the overall
success of nursery establish- ment and operation.
Criteria for site selection
A. Water supplyAvailable throughout the year
Depend on size of nursery, type of soil, method of irrigation, and plant species to be raisedWater quality
Criteria for site selection
Sandy loam and/or loamy soils preferably with high humus content and pH between 5.5 and 6.5
B. Soil
Criteria for site selection

Criteria for site selection
May vary but large enough to supply the planting requirements or needs

2. Site preparationInvolves clearing or removal of undesirable vegetation and other physical surface cover such as stone rocksA bulldozer maybe used to facilitate clearing operations

Usually, 40% of total nursery area is allotted for infrastructures, including pathways, road networks, buildings, sheds, etc.
