Our Parish Vision Notre Dame of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic community of
faith called to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of bringing about the Kingdom.
Our Parish Mission Formed by the Word, fed at the Table, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we
INVITE, WELCOME and GUIDE each other into relationship with Christ, to GO OUT and MAKE missionary disciples.
LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today's readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don't always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God's promptings will lead us in the right way.
An Invitation for Conversation...
Nametag weekends are an opportunity to build our community as a place where we can be greeted
with a smile and be personally acknowledged — a place where “everybody knows your name.”
Nametag weekends might challenge some of us to step out of our comfort zones; yet, we surely know it is often the simplest conversations that lead to wonderful opportunities for faith
and friendship in Christ.
Join us next weekend, September 22 & 23, as we invite you
to wear a nametag and help us multiply lots of great conversations!

For The Journey...
I was hired through AbilityOne program to work in the janitorial services at Picatinny Arsenal. Through this
program nonpro it agencies can hire and train more people with disabilities. This past summer I was chosen to
represent Employment Horizons at a Grassroot Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.
The purpose of the conference was to meet with our elected of icials so they
could understand how their legislation affects people with
disabilities in their home states.
We arrived in Washington on Monday afternoon. There were 56
advocates, family members and NPA (nonpro it agency) executives
attending from around the country. I started to meet other advocates who
did not know what to expect and were just as nervous as I was.
On Tuesday, we broke into groups where I met others from Ohio, Indiana, Florida and New
York, just to name a few states. At these sessions I and others were encouraged to tell our stories. We learned that
H C G E P D
H i, my name is Mary Zarzycki. I live in Parsippany, NJ. I wake up at 4:30 AM Monday thru Friday to go to work at
Picatinny Arsenal. A van picks me up at 5:15 AM so that I can start work at 6:30 AM until 2:30PM. I have been working at Picatinny Arsenal for 17 years and am very happy sharing my days with them…
in the telling our stories we would be helping others with disabilities become employed. We also listened to guest
speakers from Congress and other government agencies who supported our desire to be employed. Later in the
day we heard stories from other advocates with all types of disabilities. All of them were so
glad that they were able to be employed.
On Wednesday we went up to Capitol
Hill to the of ices of Senator Menendez, Senator Booker,
Congressman Frelinghuysen, and Congressman Lance. We met with their aides who listened to my story
and asked questions. The fact that I wake up at 4:30 AM in the morning
to go to work surprised them and made my story something that I hope
they will remember.
At the end of my visit I felt good about my
story and hope that in some way I was able to help others with disabilities become
employed.

Mary and her family have been part of our parish family for 18 years! Her bright smile and cheerful, positive spirit are a blessing to anyone’s day! She can easily be found in our midst, sharing her gifts and talents through several ministries, including Faith Formation and the Adult Choir.
Mary, you are a powerful and inspiring witness to Christ’s love in one’s life. May your voice serve as an instrument for achieving just and fruitful opportunities for all!

The Road to Emmaus is divided into 4 sessions. Each will begin with a
thesis to establish the topic for the session, followed by a
presentation/personal sharing and discussion. Participants will be
introduced to a variety of Spiritual Practices and ceremonies to aid them
along the journey.
