GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION
The Board of Trustees of the Jennie M. Haver Scholarship Fund awards Jennie Haver Memorial Scholarships to select graduates from the Hunterdon County high schools and Polytech. In the coming year, Delaware Valley and South Hunterdon High Schools will send one (1) candidate each. Because of its large enrollment, Hunterdon Central will send two (2) candidates. North Hunterdon and Voorhees High Schools will send three (3) candidates each due to the De Mott bequest guidelines. In selecting candidates for the Jennie Haver Scholarships school guidance counselors will consider the following criteria: 1. Except for the Mildred Preen Mortimer Scholarship, select only those students most financially
in need based on the FINANCIAL RANKING DATA SHEET who have demonstrated high academic and personal achievement
2. Only students scoring above the 50th percentile of the College SAT test will be eligible.
3. Only students who have demonstrated academic merit based on their student transcript. combined with demonstrated civic dedication based on extracurricular activities..
4. Students applying for the 7 named scholarships must plan to fulfill the criteria of the scholarship and pursue the field of expertise as demonstrated. Please be sure to include all required documentation to avoid having your candidate disqualified.
PROCEDURE
After the high school counselors have selected their scholarship candidates, (if possible, please submit an alternate as well as a finalist) the applications should be POSTMARKED by April 5, 2012 to Miss Ella M. Haver, President of the Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 5141, Clinton, NJ 08809, together with five (5) copies of the following: 1. Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund Application. 2. Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund Family Income and Assets Detail Sheet. 3. Official student transcript. 4. Self-reported Student Activity Sheet. 5. Guidance Counselor recommendation. 6. Finance Data Ranking Sheet. (The Guidance Counselor prepares the Ranking Sheet based
on the College Scholarship Service Financial Aid Form.)
7. For publicity purposes please include five (5) passport size photos, labeled with the student’s name, the high school attended and the name of the scholarship.
8. A personal statement concerning the student’s goals and future plans.
Candidates selected by the counselors from each high school for the main Jennie Haver Memorial Scholarship will appear for an interview, on Saturday, May 4, 2012 at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, with the Board of Trustees, according to the schedule below. Final candidates submitted for all other named scholarships will be contacted by the Trustees and interviewed for selection on Wednesday, 4/24/12. Candidates’ failure to appear for their interview will disqualify the candidate. Questions: call Richard Byrnes, 908-534-5414. GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION
MILDRED PREEN MORTIMER CIVIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Board of Trustees of the Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund offers the Mildred Preen Mortimer Civic Achievement Award. The purpose of this award is to foster interest in and encourage talented women attending a Hunterdon County high school to achieve recognition for their services to the general good and to foster their abilities as civic-minded professionals for the future. Last year $1,000.00 was awarded. In selecting candidates, school personnel will consider the following criteria: 1. Recommend only a female senior student who has a strong record of academic,
religious, humanitarian or civic achievements. 2. Consider only those activities and achievements since eighth grade graduation. 3. Financial need is not to be considered. 4. Four categories of activity, achievement or award are recognized: Religious: Church affiliated groups, clubs, etc. School: School affiliated groups devoted to general well being. Humanitarian: Hospital, support groups, charitable organizations. Civic: Political, community, library, etc. 5. Only those activities and offices (elective only) and achievements that demonstrate
leadership, community growth potential, dedication to common good and spirit of community team work should be considered when selecting the candidate.

student’s name, the high school attended and the name of the scholarship. The Board of Trustees Selection Committee meets during May to consider the candidates based on the application submitted. The Board of Trustees will notify the applicants and the high schools of its decisions in May. The selection decisions of the Board of Trustees will be final.

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION
THE FAMILY NURSING SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP The Jennie M. Haver Board of Trustees is also responsible for The Family Nursing Scholarship, which has the same qualifications as the Jennie M. Haver candidates. Each school should submit only one candidate. Only one award is granted for the county. The student must be planning higher education in the field of health care. Last year, $2,000 was awarded. To ensure that your candidate receives full consideration, please be sure that ALL APPLICATION CRITERIA specific to this scholarship [see criteria #4] be met. . In selecting candidates, school personnel will consider the following criteria: 1. Recommend candidates on the basis of financial need, scholastic achievement, and
character. Only students scoring above the 50th percentile of the College Boards Scholastic
Aptitude Test will be eligible. 3. Recommend only those students who show objective need on the Financial Ranking Data
sheet. (Please note: The main purpose of the Fund is to aid those students who have demonstrated high academic and personal achievement and are also in financial need.)
4. Recommend only students who are planning higher education in the field of Human Health Services.
PROCEDURE The procedure uses the same materials as the Jennie M. Haver Scholarship. GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION
THE HOWARD AND GWENDOLYN DeMOTT VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP The Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund offers one vocational award for the North Hunterdon/Voorhees Regional High School District to be granted to a vocational student who plans to further his/her education for at least two years. Preference will be given to those students who exhibit an interest in the building trades. Last year $1,500 was awarded. To ensure that your candidate receives full consideration, please be sure that ALL APPLICATION CRITERIA specific to this scholarship [see criteria #2] be met. In selecting candidates, school personnel should work with the Voc-Tech personnel and consider the following criteria: 1. ELLA HAVER SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
The Board of Trustees of the Jennie M. Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund awards each year an Ella Haver Science Scholarship of a minimum of $8,000.00, to be distributed over four years to a selected graduate from a Hunterdon County high school. Upon the recommendation from a guidance counselor and a science supervisor of each of the five Hunterdon County high schools, the Board of Trustees will select one candidate from one of the high schools to receive the Ella Haver Science Scholarship. To be eligible to receive this scholarship the scholarship recipient must enroll in a college or university program that will lead to a science-related degree. In selecting candidates for the Ella Haver Science Scholarship, high school guidance counselors and science supervisors will consider the following criteria:
1. Recommend candidates on the basis of financial need, scholastic achievement and character.
2. Only students showing academic prowess in science and who have scored above the 50th percentile of the College Boards Scholastic Aptitude Test will be eligible.
3. Recommend only those students who show objective need on the Financial Ranking Data Sheet. (Please note: The main purpose of the scholarship is to aid those students who have demonstrated high academic and personal achievement and are also in financial need.)
