Dear Parents/Carers
We ended this half term in a good way by celebrating St Bede’s
feast day. This has also become a real focus for Year 8 as it’s
their last Mass at church before they leave us in the summer.
St Bede, as I’m sure you know, was one of the early doctors of
the church and one of very few British priests to receive that
accolade. Famed for his study, intellect and devout nature, he is
a model for us all here in school. For those of you who didn’t
attend this school, I’d like to point out to you the words off our
school song. Some of the words, particularly, resonated with
me. Firstly,” Drawing us in love and unity,” which is central to
our faith, but also acknowledges that we are an organisation of
many faiths. That together we are stronger than being on our
own.
Secondly, “Filling all our hopes and wishes, Lord, in the way you
know is best” talks to us about our future and the future lives
and successes of pupils and staff, as we make our way through
this life.
We have some Science testing in school for the Year 6s after half
term. We have been selected by NFER (National Federation of
Educational Research) as a sample school, where 10 pupils will
sit three short tests. This will be Lesson 1 on Monday 6 June (the
day the pupils return after Whitsun.) The test results are not
shared with either us or the pupils; it is a “testing the test”
exercise by NFER and will not be reported nationally.
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Callum Kennedy and
Luc Simian who conducted an IT class at Mount Carmel First
School. Both of them were an excellent credit to St Bede’s.
When we return after Whitsun the whole school will celebrate
the Queen’s 90th birthday, on 10 June, with a Non-Uniform Day,
to raise funds for Worcestershire Community Foundation and
the Queen’s own charity, The Patron’s Fund, and CAFOD. Pupils
are asked to donate £1 for this Non-Uniform Day.
Finally, just to wish you all a restful Whitsun break and I look
forward to seeing all the pupils refreshed ready for an incredibly
busy summer term of study, celebration, reflection and
thanksgiving.

YEAR MASS 22 June 2016
Mount Carmel Church—9.30am
The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ), also known as Corpus Domini, is a Latin Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real Presence in the Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, which was observed on Maundy Thursday in the sombre atmosphere of the nearness of Good Friday. The feast is liturgically celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday or, "where the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is not a holy day of obligation, it is assigned to the Sunday after the Most Holy Trinity as its proper day". At the end of Mass, there is often a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, generally displayed in a monstrance. The procession is followed by Benediction.
God, our Father, You redeemed us and made us your children in Christ. Through Him You have saved us from death and given us Your Divine life of grace. By becoming more like Jesus on earth, may I come to share His glory in Heaven. Give me the peace of Your kingdom, which this world does not give. By Your loving care protect the good You have given me. Open my eyes to the wonders of Your Love that I may serve You with a willing heart.

Dear Parents/ Guardians/ Carers
As we enter the final half term of the year, staff are busy writing end of term reports for your son/ daughter. This year we are going to try and produce reports in a slightly different way. As we aim to become a paperless school, we are going to publish reports for pupils on Insight, where you will be able to read them as you have done for interim reports. This will not only save the school money but vastly reduce the damage we do to the environment.
Anyone with parental permission will receive a text during the week commencing 11 July, when your reports have been uploaded on to Insight. We will be sending home one sheet of paper via pupil post which will show you your child’s attendance figure for the year and we will need you to sign to say you have received the report. There will also be space, as usual, for you to make any comments you wish to.
If you cannot access Insight for any reason we can produce a printed report, but parents will need to notify the school office by Friday 1 July.
Have a lovely half term
Mr M Russell
The Year 8 Cricket team started their league matches this week. They lost their first match against Ridge-way on Wednesday but bowled really well and lost out to some good batting. They bounced back in style though on Thursday, beating Ipsley in convincing style with 7 wickets to spare. This means they go into their final game after half term needing a win to go through to the semi-finals! Congratulations to all pu-pils that have been involved so far!
Well done to all pupils who have been selected to take part in the Redditch District Mini Tennis competi-tion today. Pupils are starting to get more involved in Tennis clubs this year and are starting to make vast improvements within their game! Keep up the hard work after half term! (Mr J Stenning)
St Bede’s Got Talent 2016 was fantastic on Tuesday evening. St
Bede’s pupils across all year groups entertained in a sell-out gig with a variety of acts including gymnastics, Irish dancing, singing,
guitarists, modern dance, trumpeters, ukuleleists, Bollywood dancing, The Periodic Table performed live on stage and so much more!
Bella Kennedy, Katie Mellors and Waqar Iqbal hosted the evening
beautifully, which had been co-ordinated by Silver Arts Award pupils Waqar Iqbal, Yasmin Hayden, Abigail Mills and Jessica Hughes. It
was streamed live by our very own Tech Team and was viewed online by over 180 people on our Facebook page yesterday, with
the number still growing.
A huge thank you to staff for refreshments, raffle, support and
encouragement. Feedback was excellent and it was heralded as the
best Talent Show yet.
Very well done St Bede’s – we are very proud of you. (Mrs R
Eastwood)
On Thursday 10 pupils represented St Bede’s at the Redditch Pro Tour Cycle race. They performed admirably against experienced competition to gain a bronze medal in the inter school demonstration races. Mr Twigg’s thanks go out to those who participated;- Archie Preston, Connie Dodd, Ethan Tyler, Kathleen Thompson, Kristian Merry, Morgan Murray, Daniyal Hussain, Katie Mellors and support from Harrison Mayne and Matthew Lowe. (Mr L Twigg)
