Vocabulary corner

‘A limited vocabulary, but one with which you can make numerous

combinations, is better than thirty thousand words that only hamper the

action of the mind.’ Paul Valery

Clandestine = kept secret or done secretively Example: There was nothing clandestine about the group or what it did. How many other sentences can you

generate using clandestine?

Messages from the Head of School Good afternoon, This week our learning council pupils met to discuss the safety and infection control measures in place throughout the school and strategies teachers implement to support them to feel comfortable, confident and learn well at school. The children were extremely articulate in their responses and clearly understand the safety measures in place and the reason for each strategy. They were also excited by our recovery curriculum and stated that it helped them on their return to school by providing an opportunity for them to share their experiences both positive and negative during the lockdown period. Our children continue to build on prior learning, working on components as they learn towards a composite across each subject. With children missing large amounts of learning in school last year due to the COVID pandemic , teachers have worked quickly to identify missing components and continue to support the children to catch up on lost learning. Please continue to support your children at home as they revisit learning from school within their homework and reading. Have a great weekend, David Livie (Head of School)

Homework Projects

This week our year 2 children shared

their homework projects.

These works of art have been devel-

oped over the past three weeks as

part of their home learning.

The models created capture different

London landmarks and have been

created completely from everyday

materials found around the house.

Well done boys and thank you for

sharing your hard work!

Miss Singaram’s Art Attack

This week, the UK celebrated Teacher’s Day on

the 5th October 2020, where teachers around the

country were celebrated for their passion,

dedication and hard work. As you know, teachers

are very important to us, as they help you make

progress in individual subjects, by

exposing you to different content and

introducing you to many skills for you

to use throughout life. Your art

challenge is to create a SUPERHERO

comic poster about your teacher and

their special teaching powers! All you

need is poster paper or card, colours/

paint and your own

creative ideas!

Miss Fryer’s Maths Challenge

A set of ten cards, each showing one of the digits from 0 to 9, is

divided up between five envelopes so that there are two cards in

each envelope. The sum of the two numbers inside it is written on

each envelope:

What numbers could be inside the ‘8’ envelope?

Egg Parachute – Testing Air resistance and

insulation

You will need: eggs, plastic bags, cardboard,

scissors, string, tape, fabrics, and newspapers

(and any other material you think may help!)

Air resistance is the force which slows the effect

of gravity on a downward moving object.

Investigate and conduct an experiment to see

which materials create the most air

resistance. Which is the most

effective material. Try to keep your

egg safe!
