A word from the principal and welcome to the third week of term 1
Our first Interaction Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12th, where we will visit Zeerust P.S. and participate in the Life Education Program with the students from Wunghnu
and Dhurringile schools as well. The program will run a Friendship theme. Then we head
across to Dhurringile P.S. for a sustainability/biodiversity day next Friday, February 21st.
I am attaching a Parent Feedback Form for all families to fill out. Our school is undergoing a review in March, this term and part of the process is to gather data and feedback from
parents, staff and students. The students have provided their feedback, the staff are in
the process of providing theirs and now I need yours. This double sided form requests your
comments about how you feel Waaia-Yalca South P.S. is operating under the headings
provided on the sheet. Your comments and suggestions are very important to myself, as well as the review panel members.
The school levy for 2020 (which was agreed upon at the last School Council meeting in 2019)
is $200 per student, to cover $150 for excursions throughout the year and $50 for school
requisites such as pens, pencils, rulers, exercise books, etc. There are optional payment plans available and if any parent/guardian needs further information regarding payment of
fees, please do not hesitate to call in and discuss this with me.
The Junior School Council at Waaia-Yalca South P.S. met for the first time last Tuesday
and Heidi, Lachlan, Peyton and Zac will meet regularly throughout the year and make decisions about suggestions/recommendations for our school on behalf of the students.
A small but active Waaia town group has requested that all families save and send any
plastic bottles which have the “10c refund at collection depots/points in participating state/
territory of purchase” statement on the bottle. The group will then take them to nearby NSW to cash them in. The group would also like any empty aluminium cans to be sent to the
school. The aim is to raise funds for the Waaia silos to be painted as part of the growing
popularity of silo art.

WELLBEING
Session 2: We can take charge of our thinking!
Last week we talked about what emotions might look, feel and sound like.
In wellbeing this week we discussed how thoughts can affect the way we feel and
behave. We also spoke about unhelpful thoughts and spoke about red (negative)
and green (positive) thoughts.
This week’s family challenge is;
As a family together at the dinner table can you EACH use an example of a red
(negative) and green (positive) thought. (P.S. How did you go with last week’s challenge?)
