goals for your child for the remainder of the school year.

Moon Festival

Please come along after dark tonight to celebrate the Moon Festival. Students have handmade over 400

lanterns which will be lit up along the oval fence line.

Kerrimuir School Fair 2019

Preparations are in full swing for the Kerrimuir School Fair 2019 to be held on Saturday 9th

November. A big thank you must go out to all the members of the organising committee for the all the hard work they have put in to ensure this day is a huge success. The school fair is a great opportunity to get to know other school families and raise some money to continue to make the facilities at Kerrimuir engaging for

all students.

Footy Day

Planning is in full swing for Footy Day next Friday. Remember to wear your club colours, jumpers and beanies.

The parade will start at 10.00am on the FFG with footy rotation starting at 11.30am. I am expecting to see a large contingent of proud and passionate Richmond fans this year. Go the Yellow and

Black.

Last Day of Term 3 next week

A reminder to all parents that school finishes at 2.30pm next Friday 20th September.

Camp Australia will be operating as normal from 2.30pm

Are you creative? Have a bit of artistic flare?

Face Painters wanted for the KPS Fair!

We already have several parents in our school

community with some facepainting know-how, but

are looking for a few more to add to the team for

this year’s fair.

Specific facepainting experience isn’t necessary,

but we are looking for people with some skills/

interest/confidence in the creative arts.

All materials provided along with

opportunities for practice sessions in

the lead up to the fair.

If you are interested, please contact

Katherine Harding on

[email protected]

or phone 0420 939 008.

A reminder to all families that hats

need to worn by all students

between the beginning of

September and the end of April.

Please note a baseball cap is not

acceptable as it does not provide

enough protection.

Numeracy at home

Ideas to support your child- part 2

Are we there yet?

Children can:

Collect important dates and mark them on a calendar

Time how long does it take us to travel to school

Estimate how far you’ve travelled, the distance to your destination, and how long it is

going to take

Find the arrival time: e.g. If it is 4:38 pm now and it will take us 15 minutes to get there

Enter dates into a digital calendar: e.g., identify the day of the week, the time between

dates and set reminders

Help you to make a travel plan using timetables

Read the public transport maps to follow along with each stop

Shopping

Children can:

Estimate the total cost of your supermarket purchase

Estimate and weigh the fruit and vegetables; Compare two

items for the best value for money

Discuss if an item on “special” is really that special

Find specific items (e.g., medium-sized tin of red beans, 2

litres of milk, 250g of mince)

Find how many apples/bananas will weigh a kilogram

Look for the best buy between different brands of the same item then different sizes of

the same item

Cut items from shopping brochures that add to different values

Estimate how many bags you will need to carry your grocery shop

Disassemble a package to create a two-dimensional net

Compare packaging sizes for a litre and a kilogram

As a young scientist and naturalist, you need to know all about Australia and why the land is the way it is. Often

Australia has experienced 10-15 years of severe drought and then flooding rains have come. Get a feel for the

“bush”, the great outback, and our water challenges in Australia. Learn “My Country” and see how it tells about our

country that is so different from where most people came from originally. Match photos to the ideas in the poem.

Learn to read weather maps and compare predictions to reality. What do you believe? Who was Albert Namatjira

and what did he do? Can we do what he did? Develop your memory, gain new words to use, write your own poetry

and create a painting. Why do we need “mateship” more than most?
