AMessage from ipur Grant) Knight:
Greetings Brother Knights
Our March 28th meeting was a good one with approximately 30 members in
attendance. As we opened our meeting with our special intentions many were
referenced for the needs of our prayers and continued recovery for our members with
a variety of medical conditions. We also prayed for all first responders and their
families, our chaplain and his ministry and our elected leaders both near and far and
the Paul Bauer family.
The Financial report was given by SK Wayne Bubak as he referenced a
resounding success for our 20th Anniversary Celebration on March 10th, 2018. The
chairman of this event, SK Paul Rutherford and his committee done an outstanding
job as it surpassed all other financial events throughout the year combined
OUTSTANDING! Compliments were abundant on the Venue, the Food, the DJ, both
Photographers and the Presentation and Awards and the raffle table which in itself
raised $520.00 (special thanks to all that donated items especially SK Gary Hudakfor the Knights of Columbuswood carving on a whiskey barrel top (much soughtafter) and won by SK Phil Riveria). All were in agreement to continue this event asa annual event. There were some bumps in the road with our ad book, but we will
stand good for them as I go around and check with each business or individual.
Our golfouting is set for July 12, 2018 as we honorthe passing of our BrotherKnightwho was a 19 year member of our council with the first "PAUL BAUER
MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING, as presented by The Knights of Columbus, StMichaelthe Archangel, Patron of Police, Chicago Police Council #12173," with a portion(20% to 25%) of the proceeds going to the Memorial Foundation under the Bauername. This event to be held at the beautiful Glenn Eagles Country Club Golf Courselocated at 13070 McCarthy Rd., Lamont, Illinois. So mark your calendars and putyour foursomes togetherand Please spread the word on thisspecial event and Iknow Ladies golf too so don't be shy and come and have a goodtime and evenifyou don't golfyou can still join us fordinner and pictures.
St. Jude Parade This is a must do in our council. Thousands of Law
Enforcement come from all points of the compass to show their pride and honor
to the profession and those who have paid the ultimate price or have sustainedthe most catastrophic of injuries. All members are encouraged to put forth theeffort and come out and march with the 4th Degree in this annual tribute...once
a year is not much to ask for a show of support, especially in these current times.
Stars...council stars both Gold (yellow metal)and Silver (white metal) are
starting to go out, first come first serve. I started dispensing the stars February
16th, and also the February and March meetings the gold is $40.00 (cash,
check or PayPal) intended for officers past and present and the silver is $35.00
for members... I have received requests for one of each for wall displays in
shadow boxes, which is a very good idea, which I think I'll do also
Gift Presentation....our council is very proud of our first Deacon coming from
within our council and I'm talking about SK Bill Burns who will be ordained on May
12,2018at Holy Name Cathedral...well we surprised him, as we were honored to
do so and gave him his first vestments as a Deacon.
(Based on memory and proper protocol) $1,384.00 authorized for council
shirts. $100.00 authorized for St. Baldricks. $100.00 authorized for Italian
American War Veteran Museum. $135.00 authorized for 30 new ad books.
Proposal pending for two $500.00 scholarships.
Food...hot dogs and brats and chips were enjoyed by allwith goodcompany and plenty of war stories.

Thank you to all who planned, executed, andattended last month's Police Suicide Awareness

Usually my
Wednesday
routine of
visiting thedistricts
impedes myability toattend
regular KC
meetings.
However, I
was able to
be with the
council for
this pastmonth's
meeting. It is always a pleasure to be present at our regular meetings, and I wish I could do somore often. Regardless, be assured of my constant support and prayers for my brother Knights, the well-being of our council, and the success of all its endeavors.
Recently on our Wednesday night rounds in the districts, Chaplain Bob Montelongo and Ibumped into Officers David DeLeon and Jason Fong from Oil. This dynamic duo is certainlyhelping to make the west side a safer place for residents to enjoy. Keep up the great work,David and Jason!
While Easter has come and gone for western (non-Orthodox) Christians, the Easter seasoncontinues for 50 days through Pentecost. So even though the decorations are down, thechocolate is eaten, and (hopefully!) all the hidden eggs are found, I still wish you a HAPPYEASTER SEASON!
