School Year 2012-2013
AST welcomed all returning teachers/staff as well as the numerous new members, to the school year 2012-2013! Technology was a priority as Mrs. Jenkins’ “avatar” greeted the staff and USB’s were handed out!
On Friday, August 24th the American School joined to celebrate and show appreciation to the 22 employees of the General Services Department, for the hard work carried out this
summer in the care of our facilities. The Superintendent, together with the Development Office, coordinated the donations of the organizations representing the four pillars of the school: Parent and Teacher Organization (PTO), Alumni Association (ASTAA), Student
Council (STUCO) and Teacher's Association (TA).
These organizations donated money to pay for a delicious Honduran "Típico" lunch served in our cafeteria, and some thermoses to carry their food during the school year.
We congratulate Mr. Oswaldo Oyuela, Head of General Services, for leading such an
excellent team.

We thank all the moms who helped us put this event together!
Thank you Character Ed’s head, Mrs. Nena Alvarado, for such a
great way to celebrate Peace Day
on Sept 21.
At 1:30 PM, Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 STUCO members gathered to celebrate what was the result of a lot of hard work, and a joint effort of students, teachers, and Alumni. Eduardo Kafati’s (1977) family (Tatiana, Miguel 2006, Karina 2007, Alberto 209, and Andrea 2013) decided to give back to their school by donating a beautiful plaza to the High School student body. The plaza is fully furnished with five tables and 20 chairs, as well as 4 beautiful wooden benches. A metal structure was also included that will provide for a nice green area once the vines (donated by Liliana Jenkins 1974) grow to create a green ceiling. Student Council further embellished the area with a creative STUCO wall for announcements and posts designed by Rosa Kawas (2013). The ceremony, lead by Student Council President, Jean Luc Miralda was a perfect touch to an intimate gathering, and included words of appreciation to ESPRESSO AMERICANO and the Kafati family . A heartfelt speech by Karina Kafati in representation of her family, was followed by Mrs. Jenkins, our Superintendent, who thanked this selfless gesture which as she reminded those present will have an impact, not only with our Student Body, but also with the community of students in the Adult English Academy. The Development Office commends the KAFATI – GIUDICELLI family and invites all of you to continue supporting businesses like ESPRESSO AMERICANO, who constantly have supported the school for many years.
Jean Luc Miralda, STUCO President, addressing the audience.
Special Guests: Familia Kafati – Giudicelli, Mrs. Liliana Jenkins, Mrs. María Motz, and Mr. Ricardo Belgrave.
All STUCO members attended the ceremony. The advisors, Mr. Padgett and Mrs. Davis were very proud.
Jean Luc thanked the hard work of former STUCO President Francesca Garcia and Advisor Blake Dickson.
Leadership Conference in Nicaragua STUCO AND NHS Selected Student Council and NHS
members represented AST in this year’s AASCA Leadership Conference. Our student leaders learned a lot and exchanged ideas and strategies with Student Council and NHS members of other Central American schools present at the conference.
After so many sleepless nights, so
many meetings, so many visits to
local businesses, the dream has
become a reality. Under an
overcast sky, members of the AST
community inaugurated the new
soccer field. Donors, alumni,
parents, school leaders, teachers,
and athletes sat in awe as they
saw the finished project with the
backdrop of the mountains around the city. AST thanked the different
donors, many of them ALUMNI,
who helped make this dream a
reality.
The HS band and cheerleaders
helped make this moment a magic
one.
After María Lucía Morales
(Kinder) gave the first of the
myriad kicks our eagles will enjoy
for many years to come, and Jose
Rafael Rivera (Fifth Grade) served
as the perfect goalie, the athletes
let go helium filled balloons as a
visual image of the culmination of
the dream our AST family shared
and together managed to
accomplish. GO EAGLES! Mr. Carlos Corrales, Master of Ceremonies High School Band, Director Marco Ferrera

RAFAEL ENRIQUE will remain in our memories and hearts forever . . .
"El da esfuerzo al cansado,
y multiplica las fuerzas al que no tiene ningunas.
Los muchachos se fatigan y se cansan,
los jóvenes flaquean y caen:
Pero los que esperan a Jehová tendrán nuevas
fuerzas;
levantarán alas como las AGUILAS;
correrán, y no se cansarán; caminarán, y no se fatigarán."
Isaías 40:29-31

SENIORS 2013
Rafael Enrique’s life will be cherished forever by the Class of 2013 through their hard work with the FUNDACION HONDUREÑA PARA EL NIÑO CON CANCER. The Seniors spent a special morning with the kids at Nova Centro and they each became a “godparent” to a child!
We admire and love you all!
“Our Christmas Concert was a show that included all school divisions joining in the Christmas Spirit with family and friends. It is the result of the hard work of all of our students, yearning to show all the skills and knowledge acquired during the semester. It was a huge success thanks to a school wide effort of teachers and students. Thank you and I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year!” – Marco Ferrera Head of the Fine Arts Department
High School and Middle School Christmas Assembly
STUCO, on behalf of the student body took the
opportunity to thank the AST support staff with gift baskets, spread good cheer by singing , playing games, dancing, and an excellent presentation by our
Cheerleading Squad!!
The school’s board (SEIT) and the Parent and Teacher Organization (PTO) organized their traditional staff Christmas Party. With the help of our Dining Hall’s General Manager, Angélica Díaz del Valle, the Dining Hall looked spectacular and the meal was exquisite. Many went home with the gifts from the “year long awaited” raffle, and others danced until midnight. Thank you!
