AugustaSouthernNation-alsCommitteeChairman,DaytonSherrousestated,“Unfortunately,theAugustaareahasbeenex-periencingexcessiverainfalloverthelastseveralmonths.ThishascausedallthereservoirslocatedontheSavannahRiverupstreamfromtheracesitetoexceedtheircapacityandtheflowsintheSavannahRiveraretoohighandswifttoenableustosafelyconduct
the28thAugustaSouthernNation-alsnextweek.Normalflowintheriverduringtheraceisapproxi-mately7,000cubicfeetpersec-ondandcurrentflowsareabove40,000cubicfeetpersecond.TheCorpsofEngineershasadvisedusthattheseconditionswillpersistforthenextseveralweeks.Therefore,wearecancellingthisyear’sraceandthereisnodatewherethesiteisavailablethatmatchestheLODBRSscheduletorescheduleitthisyear.Weappreciatethesup-portwehavealwaysreceivedfromtheraceteamsthathavecometoAugustaforthepast27yearsandaskyoutoputJuly18-20onyourcalendarfornextyear’srace.
