Greetings from the Pastor,
Several of you have asked me about the vestments Pastor Cheryl and I wear on Sunday mornings, so I figure this would be a good way to get information out to as many folks as possible.
The colorful drapes of fabric we wear around our necks are referred to as ‘stoles’. When a minister in our denomination is ordained, we are given a stole to remind us that we are yoked in ministry with Christ. As a rule, the color stole we wear is indicative of the season of the church year: blue or purple for Advent, white or gold for Christmas through Epiphany, purple for Lent, white or gold for the Easter season, red for Pentecost and ordinations, green for Ordinary time.
Stoles serve many functions. They are a visual reminder of the time of the year and they often have symbols on them that remind us of elements of worship and Scripture. Speaking on a purely personal level, I find it both reassuring and sobering to place one around my neck each week. It calls to mind that I am not speaking just for myself, but in tandem with God’s spirit; I just can’t say whatever I want. But I am also warmed by the knowledge that I am not entering the pulpit on my own, but also with the power of the One who called me. The stole is a reminder of servanthood, not a sign of being above any one.
Over the years I have received many beautiful stoles, given as Pastor Appreciation thanks, or from wedding couples, or even from the family and dear friends. Many are hand made, and I feel the love of others wrapping around me as well as the Spirit. We like telling the stories behind our stoles; feel free to ask either of us any Sunday morning!
I hope your summer is going well. We miss you when you are on vacation, and look forward to seeing you upon your return. The next few weeks I will be in town June 25-‐27, July 1-‐3, and July 9-‐12.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Molly

Welcome New Members! We are happy to welcome
Kaitlyn Bartlett and Adam Fischer into our church family. They joined our congregation on June 12. Their address is
235 Riverside Drive. We are glad you are here!
INQUIRER’S CLASS JULY 24, 5-‐7 pm Why do we have a chalice on our church? Who chooses who the church elects as elders and deacons? Why do we have communion every week? Ever asked any of these questions? On Sunday, July 24th, you will get a chance to have those, or other questions, answered. We will hold an Inquirer’s Class from 5 until 7 pm; it is not a Pastor’s Class for young people, but it is for adults who are interested in knowing more about our denomination, new members of the church, or even ‘old timers’ who might want a refresher! This will be a casual gathering, and we will have a snack supper available. (And no tests afterward!) We will need a minimum of 5 people to sign up for this class to make. Please make contact with the church office or Pastor Molly if you are planning to attend. Child care can be made available if necessary.
Policy Team Update
The Building Use Policy Committee continues to meet to develop policies for use of the new building. If you have suggestions about the rules that need to be in place as we occupy the new building, ideas about wedding policies, kitchen policies, or about the Columbarium, please contact one of the committee members or Martha Lee at 270.684.0653 before July 8. We want your ideas!
