THE JUDGES
Marietta Municipal Court’s Judges from 1958 to 2012
The Honorable Clifford D. Fleming
Judge Fleming was admitted to the Ohio bar on August 21, 1952 after receiving his law degree from the Franklin University Law School. He was elected as the first Judge of newly formed Marietta Municipal Court in 1958; he died suddenly of a heart attack on October 11, 1958.
The Honorable W. Denslow Sauer
Judge Sauer was admitted to the Ohio Bar on February 10, 1933 after receiving his law degree from the Ohio State University. He was appointed in 1958 to complete the term of the late Judge Fleming. He was re-elected in 1963 and served until 1965, when he accepted an appointment to the Washington County Court of Common Pleas.
The Honorable Wilbur D. Jones
Judge Jones was admitted to the Ohio Bar on August 11, 1939 after receiving his law degree from Ohio Northern University. He was appointed as Judge of Marietta Municipal Court in 1965 to complete the unexpired term of Judge Sauer.
The Honorable Robert G. Rawson
Judge Rawson was admitted to the Ohio Bar on March 23, 1955 after receiving his law degree from the Ohio State University. He was elected in 1969 and served as the Judge of Marietta Municipal Court until he took the Washington County Juvenile/Probate Bench on February 9, 1973.
The Honorable Walter E. Hallock
Judge Hallock was admitted to the Ohio Bar on September 5, 1956 after receiving his law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He was appointed to complete Judge Rawson’s unexpired term in 1973 and elected as Judge of Marietta Municipal Court in 1975, where he served until 1986 when he was elected to the Washington County Court of Common Pleas.
The Honorable N. Edward Lane, Jr.
Judge Lane was admitted to the Ohio Bar on November 4, 1977 after receiving his law degree from Capital University. He was appointed to complete the term of Judge Hallock and then subsequently elected in 1987 and served as the Judge of Marietta Municipal Court until 1992. He was subsequently elected as a Judge of the Washington County Court of Common Pleas
The Honorable Milt Nuzum, III
Judge Nuzum was admitted to the Ohio Bar on November 6, 1981 after receiving his law degree from Indiana University. He was appointed to complete the term of Judge Lane in 1993 and subsequently elected in 1993 and 1999. He served as the Judge of Marietta Municipal Court until 2005. Judge Nuzum currently serves as the Director of the Ohio Judicial College.
The Honorable Janet Dyar Welch
Judge Welch was admitted to the Ohio Bar on November 7, 1980 after receiving her law degree from the Ohio State University. She was elected as Judge of the Marietta Municipal Court in 2005 and recently re-elected in 2011. She has presided over the purchase and renovation of the 259 Butler St. Facility.
