• Difficult area to farm unlike the South…why?

• Built Around: merchants and skilled craftsmen selling things, fishing, shipbuilding
• Harsh climate and rocky soil made farming too difficult
RELATIONSHIP WITH NATIVE AMERICANS
• Samoset – Native American who gave Pilgrims info on the New England Area
• Introduced them to Squanto, who taught them how to survive (farming, wild turkeys)
