Neo-emotionalismisthenameIdecidedtodescribethestyleofartIuseformycreations.
IchoosefiguresbecauseIconsiderthemthemostchallengingform,andalsotohelpthecriticismoftheviewer
inalldifferentlevelsofknowledge.
Itisriskycreatingfigurativeartbecauseitisdefinedintheevidenceoftheskill,whereoneerrorcanmakea
masterpiecefail,ifitisnotinharmonywiththeentiretyofthewhole.
Beauty,ineverysenseoftheword,ismyinspirationandbyconsequence,thecommondenominatorbetweenthe
subjectortheobjectIcreate.
Theimportanceofcreatingwithdeepemotionisabovethetechniquewhichisbeingconsideredandutilized.
Itiscriticalformetobecomeonewiththesubject.
EngagingapieceofArtinthiscategoryorinthiscategoryonly,willbeasdifficultasengagingitinanyother

InthiscommentaryIwouldliketoplaceemphasisontheacademicaspectsofthisextraordinaryartist.
Art is meant to touch our emotions by challenging our senses, forcing us from our daily routines and
preconceptions.Forcingustolookinvariablyatourselvesandtheworldaroundus.
Inthisexquisitebodyofworkcarefullyillustratedinthisvolume,theartistcapturestheimaginationofthe
viewer.HehascoinedthetermNeo-Emotionalismwhichisthetitletothisbookandalsoadefinitivedescription
ofthedepthofhisartisticexpression.
HebridgesExpressionism,Emotionalism,andImpressionismtocreateastylewhichishisalone,onewhich
hastouchedtheheartsofcountlessadmirersaroundtheworld.
Theseductivenessofhispaintingsallowsustoexploreoursocial,moralandaestheticvalues.Oursensuality

challengingaspectforthespectator.Thelanguageofartislikethelanguageofwords,orthesoundofmusic,or
thepoetryofwritings.Theartist’scomposition,hisuseofcolorandhisuniquevisioncometogetherandcreate
anemotionalimpact,whichistheartist’ssignature.
ForFabianPerezsometimeswhatisleftoutofthepaintingsaysmoreaboutthesubjectthenwhatisleftin,sug-
gestingthatwhatweseeisnotalwayswhatitseems.
Intheseoutstandingpaintingstheartistsuggeststherelationshipbetweenthesubjectsandtheviewer.Toimply

Biography
EduaHerrera,abeautifulBrazilianwoman,methisfather,ahandsomeandcharismaticladiesman,Antonio
Perez,inthelate1950’sinCampana(BuenosAires).TheymarriedandFabianistheyoungestofthethree
sistersandonebrother.FabianwasraisedinCampana(Argentina).Asmallcityofnomorethan120,000
people,50milesoutsideofBuenosAires.
Fabian’smotherwasthecreativeforceinFabian’slifeandhisfatherwas
theinspirationforhiswork.AntonioPerez’slifewasintense,yetsomehow
inslowmotion.Fabianwatchedhisfatherstruggle,oftenportrayinghimin
hispaintings.Heisthecoolguyoutsidethenightclubsandbordellos.An-
tonioownedbrothelsinCampanathatwereillegal.
Hewasconstantlybeingchasedandcloseddownbythepolice.Fabianwas
exposedtobeautifulwomenathisfather’snightclubs,“LadiesoftheNight”.
Today we see these women portrayed in
many of his paintings, memories of his
youthandthenightlifeheobserved.Much
ofhisworkisdark.Onesensesa
forbiddensensualityor,perhaps,itismerely
anunfulfilledlonging.
Fabianexquisitelyportrayshissubjects.Heisabletocaptureaquietpose,how-
ever,oneisawarethattheeyesandmindarealivewithexcitementandpassion.
InspiredbywhatisknowninmartialartsastheMuga(emptymind),Fabian
findshimselfinthisstateofmindwhenheisatworkandthepurityofhiscre-
ativityflows.Thisisalmostameditativestate.Attheageof16,Fabianwas
facedwiththelossofhismotherand3yearslaterthelossofhisfather.Thesad-
nessanddespairheexperiencedlefthimconfusedandsearchingforanswers.
Heartbrokenandalone,Fabianfoundgreatstrengthinthemartialarts.Attending
karateclassesonaregularbasis,heimmersedhislifeinthediscipline.
Strugglingtotakecareofhimself,hetaughtkarateandlivedinvariousmartialartsstudiosandfriend’shomes.
In1984Fabiancrossedpathswiththegreatestinspirationofhislife,SenseiOscar,wholaterbecameFabian’s
teacher,master,closefriendandfatherfigure.In1987,notlongafterhisfather’sdeath,FabianmovedfromAr-
gentinatoSanPaolo,Braziltovisitfamily.HethenspenttimeinRiolivinganalmostnomadiclife.
Hefoundrefugeonthewarmsensuousbeachesofthisveryromanticparadise.Afterbeingalone,herealized
thatwithinhispainwouldemanatehisstrength.After6monthsinBrazil,FabiandecidedtomovetoItaly,
wherehismaster,Oscar,wasteach-
ing and living. Hewoulduse this
timetoperfecthismartialartstrain-
ing.HelivedinPadova,asmallcity
20minutesoutsideofVenice.
Thistowniswherehebeganhisca-
reerasanartist.Havingsmallexhi-
bitionsofhiswork,hefoundthatthe
European tourists were buying his
art. Painting and teachingmartial
artswith thedreamofbecominga
karatemaster,hewasunawareatthe
timethathisextensivetraininginthe
martialartswouldplaysuchasignif-
icantroleinhisartworkandhislife’s
path.

After7yearsinItaly,Fabianlistenedtohisinnervoiceandrealizedthatitwastimetomoveon.InOkinawa,
Japanhewouldcontinuehispaintingandhiskaratetraining,travelingtoTokyoforperiodsoftimetopaint
andteach.HistimespentinJapanwasanamazingperiodofinnergrowth,inspiredbytheShodo,aJapanese
techniqueofpainting.
Heutilizedthisinfluencedtocre-
ateavariationofthetechnique,
using figurative and abstract
stylesinhispaintings.Japan,for
Fabian,wasatimeofabundant
informationandaculturerichin
history.Eachdayforhimwasa
remarkablelearningexperience.
As inspiring as this was for
Fabian,heyearnedforanewad-
venture.Althoughmuchofwhat
helearnedfromhiseasternstud-
ies influencedhisart,heknew
his journeywas far fromover.
Hedecided tomove toMiami,
Florida.Seekingtheleastexpen-
sive route to fly to theUnited
States,Fabianwouldstopoverin
LosAngelesforaperiodoftime.
Heworkedasabusboy,didmusicvideos,modeled,andworkedoddjobsforUniversalStudios.Hepainted
throughoutthenight.Hewouldconsiderthisperiodofhislifetobemostcreative.Perhapsitwasbychance,
orperhapsitwasmeanttobe,thatinthespringof2001,whilehavinglunchatMauro’sCaféinLosAngeles,
RobertandTamaraBane,artpublishersandgalleryowners,sawanexhibitionofhiswork.Theyfellinlove
withhisstyleandromanticimages.RobertmetFabianforlunchtwodayslaterandtheyformedapartnership
topromote,marketanddevelopFabian’scareerasafineartist.
Thecollaborationwasanoverwhelmingsuccess,everypaintingFabiancreatedwassoldimmediatelyandthe
demand forFabian’swork exploded.
Today, Fabian’s original acrylics, oil
paintingsandhishandenhancedlim-
itededitiongicleeoncanvas,areexclu-
sivelypublishedbyFabianandRobert
Bane of Robert Bane FineArt. Al-
thoughFabianenjoyspaintinginoil,he
nowpaintsprimarilyinacrylic,which
hefeelstranslatesthepropensityofhis
work in a rich and vivid manner.
Fabian wishes not to categorize his
style,ashedoesnotwanttolimithim-
selforhiswork.Hisartispassionate
andreflectsthestrongromanticfeel-
ingsFabianliveseachday.Henever
didmovetoMiamiandnowresidesin
Beverly Hills, California, where he
paints,playssoccer,trainsandteaches
martialartstoclosefriends.

This long-awaited book represents a landmark moment in Fabian’s distinguished career, reflecting his
outstandingstatusbothasanartistandasamajorfigureontheworldstage.Overthelastthreeyearshisinter-
nationalcachethasreachedanewlevelbothintermsofpopularsuccessandcriticalacclaimwithseveralpres-
tigiousappointmentsincludingofficialartisttotheLatinGrammyAwardsandtotheWinterOlympicsin
Vancouver,2010.
Fabian’sachievementsaredueinparttohiscreativeandtechnicalgenius,andinparttoauniquestylewhich

Ipaintinspiredbymyfather,awellknowncharacterofthenightlife;aclandestinegamblingcapitalistandowner
ofthreebrothelsinArgentina.Idevelopmyworkinatimethat,frommypointofview,ismuchmoreromantic
thanthepresentday.Atimewhenthemanwouldtakeprideinshavingorsimplyfixinghistie.Whenthewomen
wouldfollowaroutineofslow,sensualmovementswhichcouldseduceamanjustbylightingacigarette.When
Iwasachild,Icouldnotwaittogrowupanddeclaremylovetothetelevision’sdivas.
Unlikemanyartisttoday,Ipaintmanysubjects.All
ofmytravelsandexperiencesofdifferentculturesand
meetingsomanypeoplehashadasignificantinflu-
enceonmywork.Thismakesmycollectionofsub-
jects more eclectic - from bars to wineries, from
womentogypsies.Ireallyliketopaintthemallfor
differentreasons.Forexample,Iliketopaintprosti-
tutes,geishas,cortesanasandescortsfromdifferent
partsoftheworldbecausetheymovelikecats:sen-
sual,smoothandgettingalotwithlittleeffort.They
arelikequeensborninthewrongplace.WhatIlike
topaintaboutmenisthatitisnotonlythetextureof
theirsuits,butalsotheirbodylanguagethatshows
theyhaveseenandexperiencedsomuch.
Forme,theFlamencoDancerisasymbolofawoman
proudtobeawomanwithalltheadvantages.Sensual,butstrong.Courageous.Theygivemethesensationthat
theycantakecareofanysituationinlifewithagreatsenseoffamily.
IliketopaintgypsiesbecauseIgrewupinaneighborhoodwherethirtypercentweregypsies.Whatmakes
themsospecialtomeisthefactthattheyshowedmeyoudonotneedtohavematerialpossessiontobehappy.
Thatthosewhopossessmorearenotricher,butrather,thosewhoseneedsarelessareperhapsthericher.
Moreimportantisnothowmuchyouhave,butwithwhomyoushareit.
WhenIpainttheoldbalconiesofSanTelmo,Icanimaginetheescortsfromthebrothelsduringtheday,emerging
tothewarmsunlightofthesummermorningtotakeabreathoffreshairandtakingtimeforthemselveswiththe
attitudeofafelinewakingupfromanap.
Themostdifficultsubjecttoworkwitharethecommissions.
IdothembecauseIthinktheyareagoodchallengeforme,butI
alwaysprefertopaintwhatIfeelinside.Itisdifficulttocapture
theessenceofapersonyouaretryingtopaintifyoudonotknow
them.
Ipaintmusiciansbecauseitismydreamtobeareallygoodguitar
player.Mydearestfriendsaremusicians.Theirbandiscalled
CALE’.TheyperformduringmysoloexhibitionsinCalifornia.
Allweneedisafewguitarsinmyplaceormyfriend’shomeand
“lajuerga”(theparty)begins.
EventhoughIreallyappreciateTango,Inevertrytodanceit.
Ipainttangodancersasatooltoshowpeopleinreallifesituations:
howsomeonecanlivealifesointense,lovinganotherpersoneven
iftherewardisalmostimpossible.Wheretheyaretryingtoconquertheheartofthenightlifewomen.
Ineverdecidedtobecomeanartist,itwasjustaconsequence.Talentissomethingthatyouhaveandmaybelater
youdevelopifyourecognizedit.IpaintbecauseIenjoyit.Myfriendsknewthisthroughoutmylifeandpeople
begantopurchasemypaintings.Allmylifeistheconsequenceofmycareertoday.

My Work
Mykaratemaster,OscarHiga,encouragedmetopaintmore
andmore.Hetookclassesindifferentartschoolswhenhe
was inhis twenties andhe is aperson fullof sensitivity.
Soon,IbecamefascinatedwiththeJapanesetechniquecalled
Shodofortheenergyanddeterminationofthestrokes.Itis
thenthatItooksomedrawingclassesandstartedtocopy
techniques frombooksof thegreatmasters. I likeRem-
brant’spalletbecauseofhiswarm,earthcolors.Sargentbe-
causethereisalwaystensionandmysteryinhispaintings.I
admire the solid compositions of Picasso and Cezanne’s
brushstrokes.
IlikethestrongdrawingofToulouse-Lautrecand,ofcourse,
the contrast and mood that define Caravaggio with the
“chiaroscuro”.
Ienjoy thebohemiannightlifeeverywhere Igo. WhenI
comebacktomystudio,IrecreatemymemoriesandIpaint
fromthem.Ineverliketogoaroundwithmyeasel,Iliketo
liveexperiencesandthenpainttheminmystudio.Ifyou
paintaglassofwhiskey,youshouldhavebeendrinkingit.
Ifyoupaintsomeonedancingtangobesurethatyourhearthasbeenbrokenbefore.
Ibelieveallthewaysofartarecompatible.Artisabigmountainandalltheformsofarthavedifferentways
togettothetop.Nomatterwhatyoudo,itisalwaysalongwayandtherearenoshortcutswhichallowyou
toarrivefaster.Thegoalisthesameforanykindofart.Nottodothingsonlywithyourmind,butalsowith
yoursoul.Nottothinkabouttheresult,butleavetheresultsastheconsequenceofyourexperience,andeffort,
onthelongjourney.Mykarateteacher,Oscar,alwayssaid“youdonotthrowyourpunch,youshouldbecome
apunch”andItranslatedthatinmypaintingstomean:“Ishouldnotpaint.Ishouldbecomethepaintitself”.
Picassotriedtotransferthesamemessagewithhiswords:“Whensomeoneispaintingtheyshouldreturnto
beingachild”.Degas,inanotherway,said:“IpaintbetterwhenIdonotknowwhatIamdoing”.
Themessageis:tryingtobreakthedualismbetweentheexecuterandtheaction.Thisisthewaytoallowthe
mostpurefeelingstobecomeshapedinthecanvaswithoutthinkingaboutthefinalresult.Leavingtheconse-
quenceofyourexperiencethrougheachbrushstroke.Mylife’sphilosophyistoliveeverydayasifitwerethe
lastone.ThebookoftheBushido(theSAMURAIcode)saysthatawarriormustbealwaysreadytodieatany
time.
WhenIwakeupeveryday,IopenmyeyesandI
seemywifeLucianasleeping.Iobserveheras
ifitwasthelasttimeIwasgoingtoseeherand
fromthatmomentandfortherestofthedayall
my preoccupations are diminished and I can
enjoythemomentsofmylifeevenmore.

artspractice,givinghimhisownprofiletohispaintingswithcharacteristicsoffirmnessanddeterminationin
hisbrushstrokesand,atthesametime,withasmoothnessandfluidityofyingandyang.Ontheotherhand,
thereisatotalidentificationbetweenhimandwhathedoes.Itisasifhebecametransformedintowhathe
paints.Thismeanstheruptureofthedualisticconcepts,whichisatotalunitbetweenhimandhiswork.
InKarateexistsaninternalKarateandanexternalKarate.TheexternalKarateiswhatwecanseeanddepends
ontheinternalKarate.TheinternalKarateisthecreativity,thesensitivityandtheinneressenceofaperson
withwhomtheirbodymanagestoexpresstheirfeelingsthroughtheartofthemovement,transformingitinto
externalKarate.
Ithinkthatinexternalpainting,Fabian,asinhispracticeofKarate,knowshowtoexpressinhisworksthe
samesensationreflectedinhisartwork,expressingallhissensitivityandinnerwealth.Iamconvincedthatthese
