History:50Hoops’21stCenturyMinorityOutreachEVENT:50 Hoops ™ “African American Health Matters” celebrates 22 years in 2020, as anationalAfricanAmericanandunderservedpatient-focusededucationalorganization.And,withthatexperiencehascomemanyadvancesandchangesto50Hoops’events,workshops, lectureseries,conferences, leadershipreceptionsandbasketballcancerbreakfast,tournamentsandhealthfairs.In 2004, 50 Hoops became a part of two national clinical trials outreach forGlaxoSmithKline(ProstateCancerTarget:AfricanAmericans)andActelion(SickleCellAnemiaTarget:AfricanAmericans).TheAfricanAmericanHealthMattersfirstnationalfieldresearchsurveysweretakenattheNationalBaptistConventionsin2006and2007.

In2008,theAfricanAmericanHealthMattersradioshowpremieredonCyberstationUSAforthenexttwoyears,alongwithagrowingnationalcancer/diseasebreakfasts,lectureseriesanddoctor/communityroundtablesinnearlyadozenAfricanAmericancommunities.Duringourradioperiod,50Hoopsrecruiteddozensofdisease-focusedorganizationsthatbothappearedonourshowandofferedmaterialstomailoremail.
