FilmAsPropagandaThe Nazis were quick to see a potential forpropaganda in a new form of art: film. It allowedthem to combine visuals and words in ways thatwould have been impossible a few years earlier.Everymoviemade in Nazi Germany had a politicalfunction, evencomedies.Ineach,Jewswerealwaysportrayed as villains or fools. One of the mostinflammatory anti-Semitic films was TheRothscholds. Goebbels even issued specialinstructionsonhowthismoviewastobedescribed. The Rothschilds was to be treated as a “faithfulreenactment” of a historical event. Therefore onepublication referred to the movie as an historicalaccount of the way Jews profited from England’svictory over France “while nations are bleeding onthebattlefield.”France’sdefeatwasa“victorywonbygold,aRothschildvictory,avictoryfortheStarofDavid.”____________________________________________________________________________________
