• Arts of Pyu era were either lost or destroyed by time or natural disaster

Myanmar Art in Bagan Period
• Myanmar art reached a high
• Paintings were created on the walls of over 4,000 stupas and many can be still seen unlike Pyu
• Featured mostly Indian
• The spectrum of color was also very limited
• There was a clear shift in painting style from Indian to Myanmar style in 13th centenary

• In 1904, British watercolor art master Robert Talbot Kelley and artist Sir Gerald Kelly arrived in Myanmar
• Myanmar artists began to practice the international painting styles of transparent watercolor and oil painting
• Burma art club was founded in 1924
• State fine arts schools have since been established and have helped Myanmar’s arts and artists gradually develop

Socialism Period, 1962 to 1988
•The dark age of Myanmar arts •Closed-door socialist economic policy had prevented artists from studying abroad •Artists had struggled for their livelihood, and eventually lived and died in poverty •Drawing socialist propaganda paintings were the only sources of income

•Exposure to international art styles began drawing Myanmar artists to modern art • By the early 1960’s , the experiment of modern had begun •In 1992, American contemporary artists visited Myanmar to expanded the knowledge of the artists •The rapid development of new technologies add last benefits to Myanmar art community •In 2013, the Myanmar government dismissed the constricted censorship laws in the art community
