President'sMessageHelloMRC-SOTmembers,Iamhappytoreportthatwehadaveryproductiveyearacrossseveralkeyinitiatives,highlightsbelow:• LaunchedournewMRCwebsite,withimprovedfunctionalityandquickaccesstoimportantMRC
andNationalSOTlinks.• Re-assembledtheprogram,awards,membership,andnominatingcommittees.
o Theprogramcommittee,chairedbyMRCPresident-ElectDr.BillBracken,iscomprisedofMRCofficersaswellasMRCmembersnotservingontheexecutivecommittee.Theyorganizedatwo-partFall2015webinarserieson“MicrobiomeinHealthandDisease”.WehadfourexcellentspeakersfromacademicinstitutionswithinourregionandthewebinarserieswasbroadcasttoNationalSOTmembership.
o Theawardscommittee,co-chairedbyDrs.TracyHenriquesandLaurenBesenhofer,broughtfortharevisedformatfortheawardapplicationprocessaswellastheEarlyCareerToxicologistAward(newfor2016).
• Dr.MichaelBiehl,MRCPastPresident,ledtheefforttoreviseourby-laws.Thiswasthefirstrevisionsince2003.
• Increasedouroutreachefforts,resultingin>20newMRCmemberssinceJuly2015.Iwouldliketothankourout-goingMRCofficers,Dr.MichaelBiehl(PastPresident),Dr.TracyHenriques(Councilor),Dr.NirajTripathi(Councilor),andMs.JenOlsen(Two-termSecretary).Asdescribedabove,wehadaveryproductiveyearanditwouldn’thavebeenpossiblewithouttheirsignificantcontributions.Onbehalfoftheexecutivecommittee,Iwouldliketothankyouforthecontinuedsupportofourregionalchapter.ThefinaldetailsarecomingtogetherforourspringmeetingandwehopetoseeyouthereonApril15th!Thanksagain,Ronnie

Plansforthe36thAnnualSpringMeetingoftheMidwestRegionalChapterofSOT(MRC/SOT)arebeingfinalized.ThemeetingwillbeheldonFriday,April15thattheDoubletreebyHiltonHotelinMundelein,IL. Thethemeforthisyear’smeetingis“E-cigarettesandMedicalMarijuana.”Acopyoftheprogramalongwiththeregistrationformanddirectionstothemeetingsitecanbefoundinthenewsletter.For further information regarding the meeting, please contact the 2016 Program Chairman, WilliamBracken([email protected]).In addition to the featured symposium, the meeting also will include the presentation of the YoungInvestigatorAward,MidwestRCBestStudentPublicationAward,EarlyCareerToxicologistAward,andthe Kenneth P. Dubois Career Achievement Award, as well as a poster session featuring the annualVictor A. Drill student research competition. The winner will receive funds to be used for travel oraccommodationsexpensesortoxicologytextbooks.All students affiliated with institutions in the MRC’s geographical region are encouraged to submitabstracts for the poster competition.
