• Brunei is a highly motorised country where about 95% of its vehicle fleet comprised of privately-owned vehicles.
• As a small nation with rapid growth on infrastructure and economic development, the movement of people and goods on our road network is getting more rapid and we anticipate chaotic mobility in the very near future if we practice Business As Usual (BAU) in our road accident reduction efforts.
• Brunei aspire to the short, medium and long-term development on 5 Pillars that focused on actions-oriented “TOWARDS SAFER MOBILITY AND SAFETY ON THE ROAD”.

• Note: These are pre-identified only based on CRoSS’s referencing on the 24 hour police report available for 2003, 2005 and 2008 data from BSB and BKS police stations. Work still in progress with the Royal Brunei Police to verify these. However, 1,4,6,7 and 8 are very much related to the major causes.
1) Driving at extreme speed.2) Distracted while driving (Mobile phone usage, texting, eating etc)3) Tailgating (follow too close) at high speed.4) Careless and Reckless driving (Eg: Reckless: ‘Cilok’ while driving
at high speed and Careless: coming out of junction abruptly)5) Abrupt change of lane without respect of other road users.6) Failing to stop in time due to distractions or less skill in driving.7) Skidding due to high speed during rain or wet road surface.8) Disobeying traffic light signals and roundabout systems.9) Driving in a rush with no sense of orderliness.
