THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF OUR CHURCH
THE SACRAMENT OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS Saturday: Vigil - 5:00 PM Sunday Schedule: 8:00AM 10:00AM
12 NOON 5:00 PM Weekdays: Monday through Saturday: 9:00 AM Holy Day: See Schedule in Bulletin
COMMUNION TO THE SICK is taken by Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist on a regular basis to those confined to their homes. Please call the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 1:30 PM (not during Lent). A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy.
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to “request” it.
THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish. Our parish upholds the Gospel values and the Church’s teachings regarding the sacredness of marriage and those couples choosing to live together in contradiction of those values, will receive a simple ceremony and all Diocesan regulations followed.
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS and RELIGIOUS LIFE: If you are considering serving God as a priest, deacon, or religious, you may contact your parish priest, deacon, or religious; or phone the Diocesan Office of Vocations at (732) 562-1990.

1920-2020 100th Anniversary the Birth of St. John Paul II
“...they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord…” Luke 2:22 How seriously do you take being a Catholic? Is “being Catholic” something I just do when
I attend Sunday Mass or attend one of my parish functions? It’s easy to be Catholic then, it’s harder to be Catholic when I am out in the world. Would someone recognize you as a Catholic by the way you act, dress and talk? How do you present yourself to the Lord and to others?

MEDITATION FOR FEBRUARY 2, 2020 Jesus Christ is the salvation prepared for all nations to see. The feast of the Presentation of the Lord invites us to celebrate the truth that Christ is the light of all nations, and the long-awaited glory of Israel. As we celebrate God’s presence among us, we are invited to reflect on our calling to bring his redemptive light into our world.
In the first reading, the prophet Malachi describes the one who will prepare a way before the Lord when he comes to purify his people. The author of Hebrews describes how Jesus came to share in flesh and blood like God’s children so as to expiate the sins of the people. In the Gospel, Jesus is taken by Mary and Joseph to be presented in the Temple; he is recognized by Simeon and Anna as the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.

On Sunday, January19th, Cardinal Tobin met with Msgr. Chris Hynes, our weekend assistant, and asked him to become the Pastor of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament parish in Roseland, New Jersey. His appointment is effective February 1, 2020 because the present pastor is retiring on that date. Last weekend, January 26th, Msgr. Hynes celebrated the 10 am and the 12 noon Masses and that was his last weekend here at St. Augustine that he has served us for the past 17 years. God willing he will be back for our Advent and Lenten Confessions. If you would like to send a card, and/or a possible gift, in gratitude for his service here at St. Augustine you can send it to:

Or perhaps you are a baptized Catholic who never completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist). The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is just
for you! Gather with others who desire to know the Lord Jesus Christ in the truth of the Catholic Faith, as we un-dergo catechesis, reflect on the scriptures, and contem-plate our call to faith in Christ in preparation for Baptism and/or reception and completion of the Sacraments of Initiation. Meetings are held on Sundays at 8:00 am in Father McGivney Hall (followed by 10:00 am Mass). If you are interested in getting connected, please call the Parish Center at 732-297-3000. Deacon Denis

READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?
Soon you can help someone answer YES to this question. Our Adventures in Reading Ministry will be collecting new and almost new books for children in Pre-K through 5th
grade. These books will be donated to the schools and libraries in New Brunswick. What a difference they make for the children! For adults we also collect soft covered books of a spiritual, Christian & adult nature. So take a look at the books taking up space on your shelves and in closets and boxes around the house. The collection will be during the weekend of February 8th and 9th in the church Gathering Area.
STITCHERS FOR PEACE
There is an interfaith group called the Central New Jersey Interfaith Stitchers for Peace. They are looking for new members and do not have any Catholic members or a Catholic Church from this area involved in the group.
The group meets monthly on Sunday afternoons at various houses of worship, i.e., Princeton Presbyterian church on Nassau Street, Synagogues in Princeton, and the Mosque on Rte 1.
They created everything from booties, baby blankets, hats, scarves, sleeping mats, etc. for global and local communities. They work a lot with the Trenton Soup Kitchen and are currently making clothing for children of Malawi, the poorest African nation, because they only have 1 set of clothing and must remain unclothed while that set is being laundered.
A comprehensive picture of their work may be found on the website www.knitting4peace.org. For additional information, our At. A’s facilitator will be Sara Ingraffia who can be reached at [email protected]
Our next event will be at the Islamic Society of Central NJ, on February 9th, from 4 to 6 pm.

Make 2020 the year YOU join us To Break Open the Word
We welcome you! No prior knowledge necessary! We have a free book of the 2020 Sunday readings just for you. We need many more parishioners to take advantage of this opportunity to get to know Jesus better through the Scriptures.

Ignore the TV! Come and see what Jesus has to say to you! It will be a positive change!!!
