Philippine exposure to disaster is largely due to its location and
geographic landscape. Composed of 7,107 islands, it is one of the worlds largestarchipelagos
long coastline which makes it vulnerable to sea-level rise located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it vulnerable to
earthquake, tsunamis and volcanic hazards has 220 volcanoes, 22 of which are classified as active lies along the Western Pacific Basin, a generator of climatic
conditions such as monsoons, thunderstorms, intertropicalconvergence zones, typhoons and El Nino
annual average, 20 tropical cyclones cross the Philippine areaof responsibility (damage due to high winds, storm surges and floods)

Natural flooding
Man-induced Flooding - related to man-made structures andactivities, which include:
- improper zoning along alluvial floodplains and riverbanks
- settlements & structures
- poor flood control and drainage systems
- garbage and domestic wastes & siltation
- improper storm drain design (man-induced flooding)results to flash
flooding
Storm surges often occur in coastal environments and highlydeveloped or urbanized areas due to high tidal fluctuations andwind driven wave movement in land during typhoon or stormevents.
