Constructed in the 1980s, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) built the Root River State Trail over the former Milwaukee Railroad bed.
Come enjoy the beauty of majestic soaring limestone bluffs, wooded forests, open pastures, and rolling hills while observing abundant wildlife, birds, and wildflowers unique to the blufflands karst topography.
Follow the trail through the Root River Valley, alongside the peaceful Root River into the heart of Lanesboro and discover old-fashioned rural charm and hospitality.
