As instructed in your memo of November 25 , 2003 , this serves to provide you with the responsesmy office gathered regarding the feasibilty of County departments implementing the Los AngelesCounty Task Force on Nutrition Nutritional Guidelines (Guidelines). The Guidelines weredistributed to 44 County departments/entities of which 36 responses were received as outlined inAttachment A.
Also attached please find a matrix of the compiled responses (Attachment B). Mostdepartments/entities stated that the Guidelines do not apply to them because their facilities do notinclude cafeterias or eating facilities. Departments overseeing nutrition programs addressed thenutritional well-being of their clients and employees as well as the fiscal well-being of the County intheir responses. Some departments stated that they would distribute the Guidelines , if approvedby the Board , using departmental newsletters , Websites , and other means of communications attheir disposal.
It is important to note that implementation of the Guidelines by departments would appear toimpact County clients more so than employees. County employees would be more directlyimpacted by my office s Real Estate Division , which is responsible for overseeing concession foodservices and vending machine contracts for the County.
