Any time a new, large-scale program, suchas the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is unveiled, fraudsters and identity thieves may try to takeadvantage of consumers who may not befamiliar with the specifics of the program. Ofparticular concern is the potential for fraudu-lent websites designed to obtain consumers’personal information or steal their money.
Reports of suspicious websites, advertise-ments, telemarketing calls and door-to-doorsolicitations have turned up since the rollout. Therefore, to protect your personal informa-tion and your pocketbooks, keep in mind thefollowing precautions when signing up for anACA program:
•Stop. Call. Confirm. Protect your socialsecurity number, health information and finan-cial information. Before you give out any per-sonal, health, or financial information STOP.
CALL the Office of the Commissioner ofInsurance (OCI). CONFIRM with OCI thatthe entity is legitimate. If someone discour-ages you from contacting OCI, or pressuresyou into giving up private information, youmay be dealing with a fraudster. OCI’s con-tact information is: Wisconsin Office of theCommissioner of Insurance, Phone: (608)266-3585, Madison; (800) 236-8517,statewide; Website: http://oci.wi.gov
•Verify the legitimacy of websites youvisit. Using search engines may lead you tofraudulent websites if you are not careful. Agood practice is to type the name of the web-site you want into your browser window, rather than merely searching for informationabout the Affordable Care Act. The official, primary site is healthcare.gov. Other federaland state governmental websites provide linksto legitimate sites relating to the ACA.
•Keep good records. Keep a record ofeveryone who assists you, who they work for,and their telephone number, address, emailaddress, and website.
• T h i n kbefore sign-ing. Don’tsign anythingyou don’t fullyunderstand.
•Be suspi-cious. Areyou beingasked totransact busi-ness in anunusual way– for exampleby usingmoney order,or by buyinga moneycard? Stop, call and confirm. Also note, insurance discount cards are not the same asinsurance.
•Don’t give into high pressure tactics.Threats, limited time offers or misinformation
about Medicare are “red flags.” You cannotgo to jail for failing to enroll in the AffordableCare Act. The ACA’s enrollment period runsthrough March 31, 2014, therefore, youshould not feel pressure to decide on a plan“today.” If you are on Medicare, you do notneed to enroll in the ACA or reapply forMedicare.
•If in doubt, check with the WisconsinOffice of the Commissioner of Insurance(OCI). OCI licenses anyone authorized toengage in the business of insurance inWisconsin, and OCI can verify the legitimacyof anyone purporting to be trained to helpenroll people in the Affordable Care Act.And, as always, if you suspect criminal activi-ty, contact local law enforcement, or contactthe Department of Agriculture, Trade, andConsumer Protection (DATCP) at 800-422-7128. My office, in cooperation with the OCIand DATCP, is committed to prosecuting fraudand will work together protect Wisconsin con-sumers.

School District of Menomonee FallsSuperintendent Patricia Greco was on theother side of the board table Nov. 5 as she
gave a report to the Village Board on the stateof the school district.“We have a lot to celebrate,” Greco stat-
ed, explaining that Menomonee Falls isamong the top 5 percent performing schooldistricts in the state and the top 2 percentamong similar school districts.
Greco noted that last year there werethree students from the district who receivedKohl Fellowship honors, with only 100 pre-sented statewide.
She also added that all district schools arelisted as “exceeding expectations” on thereport cards issued by the state Department of
Public Instruction.Greco said the district has increased sum-mer school offerings to expand year-roundlearning opportunities without mandating that
option. Last year, there was a 21 percent insummer school enrollment which followed a143 percent increase the previous year. Shesaid the summer school program providescredit enrichment and support opportunities.
Greco then cited the importance of educa-
tion in addressing poverty, displaying a mapof the state that showed an increase in pover-ty across the state from 2005 to 2010.
“People typically think of the city ofMilwaukee that’s struggling with poverty. When you look across northern Wisconsin, it’saccess to industry, it’s access to opportunitiesand it’s a direct access to education,” Grecosaid.
Greco then presented data that showedthe level of unemployment drops with eachadditional level of educational attainment. Posthigh school education includes not only four-year college, but two-year college andapprenticeship opportunities.“That’s really our goal for all our students— to make sure all the students are eitherattending a four-year, a two-year or an
apprenticeship program post high school. That’s our primary contribution as we preparestudents for the economy and college andcareer readiness,” Greco said.
Greco then explained that beginning nextyear, all classroom teachers will have half of
their evaluation based on traditional measuressuch as feedback from a leadership teamwhile the other half will be based on measuresof school performance. The district has beenpreparing the teaching staff for that changeover the past two years.
Greco later added that the district is in theprocess of doing a full analysis of district facil-ities. She said one question that residentsoften ask district staff is about the status of thevacant Thomas Jefferson building. She said afull walk through and land analysis is beingdone for the Thomas Jefferson building andValley View Elementary School. She said thatthe report will be issued by February.During questioning, Trustee BonnieLemmer asked why enrollment is dropping.Greco said the district is graduating largerclasses than are entering the district at the ele-mentary levels.
In addition, Greco said the district hascommitted to maintaining the enrollment of out-of-district students to no more than 10 percentof the overall enrollment. Greco said the dis-trict will get more than 1,000 applications to
attend Menomonee Falls through open enroll-ment. Last year, the district accepted 41 stu-dents through the open enrollment program.
“If we wanted to fully backfill, we could. We could fill two full schools (with out-of-dis-trict students),” Greco said. “The commitmentis to keep that resident to non-resident balanceat that target of 10 percent.”

The award was explained to theMenomonee Falls Village Board Nov. 5 byAssistant Director of CommunityDevelopment Matt Dorner and CathyHazzard, chairperson of the CommunityDevelopment Authority.
According to Dorner, Menomonee Fallsand 19 other communities statewide wereselected to be part of the WEDC “ConnectCommunities” program. Under the pro-gram, WEDC staff assisted the communitiesin identifying “unique assets” in downtownareas and using them to move forward intheir economic development efforts. Thathas included training sessions, webinarsand on-site visits by WEDC staff to get a dif-ferent perspective of the village’s down-town assets.
Dorner said that all communities select-ed for the Connect Communities programwere invited to an awards ceremony. Hesaid Menomonee Falls nominated itself andwon an award as the best success story forthe Connect Communities program for acommunity with a population larger than8,000 residents.
Dorner said the honor was based on thevillage’s Economic Development Master
Fund (EDMF) grant and loan program.
Hazzard presented a 1987 documentwhich noted that Menomonee Falls did nothave an economic development program.Dorner said the EDMF program had beenin place for approximately a decade fol-lowing the creation of the village’s secondtax incremental finance (TIF) in the down-town area. When the village’s ninth TIF dis-trict was created to overlap the second TIFarea, Dorner said there was a need tofacade improvements to the area.
In 2010, facade grants became avail-able for businesses in the village downtownin which up to $25,000 in matching loanswould be provided for the upgrades.Dorner and Hazzard the presented severalexamples of facade improvements madepossible through the matching grant pro-gram.“It certainly improves the downtown,”Village President Randy Newman said.“The cooperation and the investment ofboth the village and the owners, more onthe owner’s side, has been the great pay-back for all of us.”
Newman noted that the new space for Just Kiln' Time and Pink Lemonade showsactivity occurring in the downtown duringthe evening.
“It really gives a nice flavor to thedowntown,” Newman said.

With the win, the Indians will be makingtheir third trip to the state tournament in thepast four years.

The opponent will be different than pro-jected, as Pius XI staged the biggest upset ofthe postseason, defeating Divine SaviorHoly Angels.
Following the Mukwonago win, Lee saidthat there so many teammates who were partof previous state trips, it's a good opportuni-ty for them to get back there and new play-ers to experience playing in the Resch
Center.Menomonee Falls jumped into the leadin the first game against Mukwonago, open-ing up a 7-1 lead that included two kills byLee. Mukwonago rallied and cut the Falls
lead to 11-8 following an ace by TaylorDybul. But Katherine Von Bank answeredwith a kill for Falls. Falls then scored the lastsix points to take the game.

"I think we made minimum errors," VonBank said of the sectional final, finishing arun in which Menomonee Falls swept allthree opponents in its sectional bracket.
Menomonee Falls Coach J.C. Bruns saidtold his team "this is the least excited I'vebeen about winning a sectional final. It hasnothing to do with not being happy for them,it has everything to do with our team expec-tations and what our goals were."
Bruns said he was not worried about histeam's confidence or them being rattled atthe sectional level.
"They knew very clearly not to take any-body lightly. I think we played that way, tomake sure we weren't taking them lightly, because (Mukwonago) is a very solid team,"Bruns said.

(NAPSI)—“Find a job you love and you’ll never work a dayin your life” is advice attributed to Confucius and an ideapopular with many career-minded Americans today.
With that in mind, Krista Davis, Regional HR Director forReckitt Benckiser, whose entrepreneurial culture has made itan attractive workplace environment for many, has thefollowing suggestions as you contemplate your next careermove:
1. Determine your unique skills: What are your strengths? What makes you happy? What talents and abilities do youhave that most people don’t?
2. How do you like to work: Do you prefer interpreting andcritically assessing information? Putting abstract ideas andconcepts together or taking them apart? Gathering, sortingand organizing information or figuring out calculations? Ormatching, selecting and making sure directions and standardsare followed correctly? Would you rather work with people, with things or with concepts?
3. Where do you like to work? A small regional office?Corporate headquarters? A home office? How often do youlike to work away from home? Do you like to travel? Somecompanies encourage employees to experience the workculture of other countries.
4. Create a road map: Where do you want to be in five or 10years? Develop a road map to get to where you want to beand stick to it.
5. Test the waters: Try an internship or apprenticeship to seeif the job is right for you and to get your foot in the door.
6. Look for a company that shares your values: That maymean working for a nonprofit or for a major corporation thatcontributes time, merchandise and money to sick children,
endangered species, great art or something else you careabout.
7. Work hard: An internship is a chance to s how how you canadd value to the organization, so build your personal brandfrom day one. It’s a good move to treat an internship like aninterview, and always remember that you d on’t see everyonewho sees you. Many people prefer an internship where youget to make decisions from the beginning, work with realbrands you’ve already heard of, work with a multiculturalgroup of driven people and earn more money for more effort.
Davis’ company is a global consumer goods leader inhealth, hygiene and home products, the portfolio of whichincludes iconic brands such as Clearasil, Mucinex, Lysol andWoolite. According to Randy Bolenbaugh, Sales Analyst at RB,the company gives colleagues ownership of projects from dayone. The people who work there have an intense drive forachievement and a desire to outperform wherever they focus.
Said Bolenbaugh, “I was able to develop a betterunderstanding of the business early in my internship and ownmy projects the same way other full-time employees on myteam were doing. I challenged myself to overdeliver oneverything I did, and that’s what made me stand out.”
The multinational corporation—it has operations in over 60countries, headquarters in the U.K., Singapore, Dubai andAmsterdam, and sales in almost 200 countries-is looking forhighly skilled, ambitious professionals, new graduates andinterns who want a fast-paced, challenging and rewardingcareer to fill positions in sales, marketing research anddevelopment.
