Sharing the Peace and Love of Christ in our community since 1820.
Pastor’s Corner (ENDURANCE)
Scripture reference: Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
My thoughts at the end of day 37 in quarantine…
If you have been especially observant, you have noticed common themes running through the sermons lately..strength, endurance, shaking off fear, steadfastness, and that we were made for the difficult journey which we find ourselves in the middle of.
Yes, we are in the middle of uncertain times. Yes, we are all dealing with common and yet some different and difficult issues and situations. WE are literally in the middle of a COVID pandemic and thus are quarantined. We have many unanswered questions. Will life go back to normal? If not, what will our new normal look like? When will this home quarantine end? We all feel uncertain and fearful or at least uncomfortable during times of ambiguity. What will you and I be like after this is over? How will my life, and my spiritual life have changed?
Hebrews gives us good advice during these uncertain times. Throw off those things, everything, every single day that entangles us...thoughts of fear, impatience, and loneliness. Run this race that was marked out before us with strength and perseverance. Keep your cool. Don’t be fearful, stay joyful in Christ, and “take it strongly in your mind” that God is trustworthy. He loves you and He will protect you. Just believe that! You can actually do this. Make the important decision to learn new things and let God use this harsh experience to begin a new thing in you! Make up your mind right now to stand firm and finish this race well.
Matthew 24:13 also echoes this advice, “But the one who stands firm to the end Shall be Saved.” This is also found numerous places in Revelation. This COVID pandemic is different than anything that any of us have ever endured, but we can do this.
Finally, I would like to remind you of one of the hymns that we frequently sing entitled “Hymn of Promise.” In that song God tells us that this change in us will be “unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.” So let go and let God. He’s making and molding you through this Experience to be conformed to the image of his Son. And now, this is going to happen quickly. Keep in mind that since we have no choice but to travel through this awkward time, necessarily, we are going to grow stronger extremely fast.
This is an unavoidable time of change, and we all need to approach this situation with a mindset that difficult times always produces solid growth spiritually. Remember to relax and approach the COVID DRAMA with an attitude of opportunity. I encourage you not to waste this rare opportunity to grow in your faith. I can’t emphasize this enough. Everyday, begin in the word and prayer and tune yourself up. Change your course/mindset when you get entangled by discouraging thoughts. Don’t get discouraged. Stay faithful and on course.
Remember, God loves you and so do we!
Yours, Shawn

Celebrate Memorial Day May 25, 2020
This day commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. In other words, the purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We spend time remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today. We might consider how we can support and safeguard their grieving families and loved ones who are left behind.

What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise.
Oscar Wilde
A Mother’s
LOVE There’s no love like a mother’s,
Her heart is filled with care.
With Christ as her example,
Her Savior’s love she’ll share.
A mother’s love is endless,
Not changing for all time.
When needed by her children,
A mother’s love will shine.
God bless these special mothers,
God bless them every one.
For all their tears and heartaches,
And special work they’ve done.
When days on earth are over,
A mother’s love lives on,
Through many generations,
God’s blessings on each one.
Be thankful for our mothers,
Who love with higher love,
From power God has given,
And strength from up above.
And for all of the mothers who take on a mothering role; who love as much as any
mother could...adoptive parents, Dads who are stay at home moms, sisters, aunts, and
friends who help to raise children.
Happy Mother’s Day!
