SUMMER MSA, BLOOMINGTON MN
AUGUST 17-19, 2017
Hello, Nobles!
It is that time of year again to start planning for
the Summer MSA, August 17-19, 2017,
in beautiful Bloomington, Minnesota.
Aad Shrine has a block of rooms reserved at
the Park Plaza, close to the HQ Hotel and one
mile from Mall of America.
Clubs and Units – please talk to your Nobles
and create a list of who will be going. Call the
Shrine office with your credit card information
before JULY 17, 2017 and we will reserve your
room, minimum 2-night stay. Rates are $99 for
King, and $109 for Double.
If you prefer to handle your own arrangements,
we can send you, via email, the special Group
link that will direct you to our block of rooms.
Contact HP&P Justin Stokke, Scott or Landa at the Shrine
office if you have any questions about the process.

Potentates Message, May 2017
What a fun month we have had. I hope you participated and enjoyed some of our events.
I attended the Gun Raffle/Chili feed contest. As the pictures show, we had a good attendance,
a great time, and made some money for your fraternity. But we left over two hundred tickets
unsold and over $4000 on the table. We can do better at this. With over 700 members, if we
each sold one or bought one, the hard core Fun Razors could easily sell the rest and all one
thousand tickets would be gone and our profit would be way up. Let’s try to do better on our
raffles. I will try to get the next raffle in the Aad News earlier and you can order tickers to buy
or sell by calling the office. Together we can get this done.
The chili contest was won by Harold Eck and he was awarded the Poopen-tate hat for first
place. (See photo, lower left) Yours truly, the Potentate and First Lady Janet took second. Six of
the twenty gun winners (and remember we give gift cards you can spend on anything in Gander
Mountain) were present. The list is elsewhere in this issue. Thank you to the Fun Razors for
organizing this event, they are in charge but we all can help sell.
My Lady and I traveled to Bemidji and met with the Headwaters Shrine Club. (See photo, lower right) We had good food and good
fellowship. Good things are happening in Bemidji. Our circus was there on the 20th of April. Their parade and football game is
September 16th. Please plan on attending. Bring your parade units and wear your Fez. I can’t make any promises but there has
always been free cold beer and hot food. You get in the game too. This is great visibility for the Shrine. If your whole unit or club
can’t make it, please still come and bring a vehicle or two for the parade.
I attended Grand Lodge in St. Cloud. I wore my Tux but there wasn’t a circus. Grand Lodge is a fun time with many knowledgeable
and fascinating people. We voted on two resolutions. The Dues increase was approved so next year it will be eleven dollars more,
the cost of two drinks at the banquet. An electronic background check for all membership was not approved but I expect to see it
back next year and only for new members, not dual or honorary or reinstatements. I’m not sure I like it but I’m from a small town
where everyone knows your name. For big cities with everyone moving and changing jobs this is probably not a bad idea.
The circus is here and gone. I hope we did well and had lots of help. More on this next month. I visited with the Clowns. I’d like to
thank the Clowns for all the work they do to make the circus great.
Hospital Dads Dinner was a great success. The story of our patient, Godson and his journey here with his mother Martha, leaves
no dry eyes in the audience. This is why we are Shriners.
Hot Sands Ceremonial is coming soon, May 6th. The Kentucky Derby party follows. Sounds like we will have some type of gaming
and prizes. Remember this is open to the public so bring a friend to the party.
The Brat Sale is almost on us. Volunteer to help any day. I will see you there. The Stated Meeting is May 9th. Lasagna is the
expected meal. Thank you, Illustrious Sir Ron Pete, and the Chefs Unit.
Don’t forget the Hospital Day bus on the 20th of May. Well I’ve rambled enough. More next month.

Fellow Nobles and friends of Aad Shriners,
Your Aad Shrine Divan has recently agreed to try to save costs
by offering the AAD NEWS to those interested via
e-mail. We currently have about 65% of Nobles and friends
e-mail addresses and would like to know how many would like
to receive the AAD NEWS only via e-mail and not the hard
copy that has been mailed to them as in the past. If you agree
to switch to e-mail only we will give you 5 free drink tickets to
the Red Fez Lounge as our way of saying thanks to help in
saving costs associated with the AAD NEWS. Please e-mail
the office at [email protected] if you want to only
receive the AAD NEWS online. If we do not hear from you,
you will continue to receive your AAD NEWS in the mail like
you always have.
Thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS, RAFFLE WINNERS!
Thank you to all who attended the Spring Hospital Dads Dinner. After a lovely meal prepared by Farley’s Family
Restaurant, and served by Noble Kelly Trumpold and staff, we enjoyed the presentation by PP Steve Kovacic, who
detailed his journey to Nigeria and his fateful meeting of the Alatoru family. It was our great pleasure to then meet
Martha Alatoru, and her son, Godson, who is currently a patient at Shriners Hospital for Children-Twin Cities. With his
successful treatments here soon to be at an end, they will be heading home, but will certainly never be far from our
hearts. The family was presented with the gift of a laptop computer. Then, the Nobles and Godson showed off all their
fancy moves to “Funky Town”! We wish Godson and his family all the best!
As always, we encourage all Nobles to join the Hospital Dads (and Moms) Unit. Your annual dues of only $5.00 allows
us to support the Shriners Hospital for Children, and spread our message throughout the community of the services we
offer to patients. See you at the Fall Dinner!
