Hunter Kane & Son – 25 yearsLARGE crowds are expected to turn out for theOpen Days planned for next Wednesday andThursday (February 29th and March 1st) atthe premises of Ballycastle-based machinerydealer Hunter Kane and Son.

“This year’s open days are particularlyspecial. They will mark 25 years of our uniquelysuccessful business relationship with SAMEtractors,” Uel Kane told Farming Life.

“This was added to, again very successfullywith the addition of the Duetz Fahr tractorrange.”

A tractor that is sure to catch the eye atnext week’s open days is the new SAME Tigeroption. Uncluttered, simple and extremelyuser friendly – these are the main features

distinguishing the SAME TIGER range, which offers models from 55 to 70 horsepower. All are designed to give versatile and efficientservice, either as all-purpose machines forsmall enterprises, or as auxiliaries alongsidefleets of high powered machines operated bylarger organizations.

Available in two models, TIGER 60 and70, the new tractors are multi-capablemachines offering the perfect combinationof performance, reliability and low runningcosts. Notable for being compact and flexible, these TIGER models will prove more thanuseful in a wide variety of work situations:from farmyard operations to haymaking, management of livestock sheds and light open

field operations. Also of note is the SAME

EXPLORER3 90-105 rangeof tractors. These machinesincorporate the Model Year2012 package, featuring a

number of engineering and styling upgradesthat underscore their excellence in thisparticular horsepower segment.

The new SAME EXPLORER³ MY 2012models are powered by four-cylinder SDF 1000series engines with turbocharger, intercoolerand electronic management. These are unitsthat offer total compatibility with biodieselfuels, while also guaranteeing full compliancewith Euro III A emission standards; maximumcrankshaft speed is 2300 rpm, with maximumtorque delivered at just 1400 rpm. The new SDFEuro III A engines are specified with hydraulicroller tappets (HRT), which by optimizingthe advance when fuel is injected into thecombustion chamber similarly optimizes theefficiency of the engine, even when startingcold in the most hostile climates.

Meanwhile Deutz Fahr has confirmed astrong demand for the new Agrotron TTVfour cylinder range of tractors with their CVTtransmissions now complete the Deutz-Fahr

TTV range from 100 to 260hp.The 6040 combine ideally suits the

smaller farmer wanting all the benefits of anew machine but needing a smaller moremanageable capacity.

Performance, reliability and efficiency arethe characteristics of these new machinesfrom Deutz-Fahr, see them for yourself at nextweek’s open days.

“Both the SAME and Dutz Fahr tractorranges combine the versatility and reliabilityrequired by today’s farmer,” continued Uel.

“What’s more they have a proven trackrecord on local farms.

“We will also be displaying a range of thenew Pottinger equipment, including silagewagons, rakes, power harrows and mowers.”

A case in point is the Novacat V10 tractormounted combination mower, which wasdeveloped by Pottinger as an answer todemands from the market looking for workingwidths in excess of 8.8 meters without the need

The Novacat V10 offers a working width rangefrom 8.76 metres to a maximum of 10 metres witha unique hydraulic width adjustment system, thisallows the operator to match overall mowing widthto the conditions and available tractor horsepower.

“On Friday, March 2, we will be hosting a‘Pottinger product day’,” Uel explained.

“Courtesy of this event we will have a number ofPottinger specialists who will be demonstrating andexplaining how the company’s range of equipmentcan be best maintained and services. Two sessionsare envisaged: the first at noon and the second at2pm.”

Going from strength to strengthTHIS year, the agricultural dealershipof Ballycastle-based Hunter Kanecelebrates 25 years of selling Sametractors – an important milestone fora business which has seen upwards of1,000 Same tractors being sold.

But the business itself was startedway back in 1963 when Hunter Kanebegan an engineering business asan extension of his family’s farmingactivities.

His involvement in farming stillcontinues to this day, but not so thefirsttractor franchise he acquired in 1967– to sell British Leyland tractors.

“In their day, the Leyland tractorswere reasonably built and, in the main,

met the needs of our customers,” saysHunter. “We were selling over 100 peryear and the job was going well.”

Hunter has always maintainedthat his business is a family businessand has only prospered to the degreeit has due to the commitment anddedication of his family members.Today, for example, his son Uel isvery much involved in the businessas is his daughter who looks after theaccounts.

A visit to the Royal show in 1986was to see a new, top of the rangeSame tractor being displayed holdinga smaller Same tractor on its frontlinkage and a slightly larger tractor on

the rear linkage.“We were very impressed –

particularly when we realised thatthese tractors featured four-wheelbraking, ground speed pto, powerfulhydraulics and a good turning circle,”Hunter explained.

“So we made inquiries and endedup being awarded the Same franchise. The Explorer 90 was a good tractor inits day but these new models are justso much better,” explained Hunter’sson, Uel Kane. “We base our businesson providing our customers with thetractors they want and I’m sure theywill be more than pleased with thelatest tractors from Same.”
