Introductions
• On a sticky note, jot down a fraction that you could use to introduce yourself to your table.
• Example: “I make up 1/5 of my family.”
“I am 5/8 through my teaching career.”
7
![Page 8: Math CAMPPP 2012](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022070405/56813e0a550346895da7ed15/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Action• Use a variety of manipulatives to model
the fraction that you used to introduce yourself in as many ways as you can. Model your fraction in at least one way that you wouldn’t normally use.
• Record each model on a different sticky note.
8

It’s Time to Move It, Move It…
• Circulate around the room with your sticky note representations.
• Post your sticky notes on chart paper under each of the different models of fractions.

Collaboration!
• In your group, you will be given one of the sheets with a fraction model.
• Organize your chart paper, clustering like ideas, annotating, and shifting sticky notes to the “Under Construction” page if necessary – noting where they came from.

Consolidation
• What criteria did you use when grouping the sticky notes on your page?
• Which ones were difficult to place?• Which ones did you choose to move to
another page and why?

Math for Teaching: Fraction Meaning• We will be discussing this handout later in
the plenary session. • Jot down any gems of knowledge or
wonder that you don’t want to forget.

Our Adventure Awaits!
There is great treasure there behind our skull and this is true about all of us. This little treasure has great, great powers, and I would say we only have learnt a very, very small part of what it can do.
