Our readings today continue on last Sundays read-ings examining prayer. However today we reflect more on the spirit we bring to prayer rather than the prayer itself. In our first reading today and in the psalm we hear prayers drawing our attention to the God of justice who hears the cry of the poor and the oppressed. The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds – it does not rest until it reaches its goal.
What do I mean about the poor or oppressed or the lowly. I’m not try-ing to define these words from a Webster’s dictionary but rather from a simple point of view. When I talk about the poor I am referring to you and to me, to anyone who needs help be it financial help, physical help, emotional help or even spiritual help. Those who are poor realize that they need more from God. God hears all who can admit they are in need and are willing to turn to God in their need. When we are poor we can place our trust in God and be strengthened in the face of that weakness. God is the source of our spiritual wellbeing and we are stronger when we turn to God. We can all bring to prayer the person we are and be thankful for all the bless-ings received. As we enter into prayer we should be more like the tax collector who went home justified. He went before God in all of his weakness and yet he felt safe to stand before God and ask for mercy. In our Gospel reading today the Pharisee prayed about his own right-eousness, in other words he believed that everything he had was ac-complished by his own efforts. If that is anyone’s belief then there is no need to ask God for anything.
Blessings, Deacon Joe Smith

CROSS is the local food shelf located in Rogers that serves the communities of Dayton, Corcoran, Rogers, Osseo, Maple Grove and part of Champlin. In addition to the food shelf, there is a clothing closet on site and Peace of
Mind service for those experiencing a financial crisis. A Hennepin County Financial worker is available weekly to take financial or food stamp applications as well. CROSS works closely with local business donors and area churches. Each church is asked to have one to two representatives to attend regular meetings, address specific concerns/needs and provide information to the churches. The church representatives for MQP are Connie Ronallo 612.716.1237 and Mary Suter 763.439.7000. Please direct any concerns or requests for CROSS through Connie or Mary to ensure communication is directed to the responsible areas.
Volunteers are always needed and responsible for the majority of the work needed to keep CROSS functioning. Volunteers handle pickup and unloading of the food, stocking the warehouse, sorting and pricing clothing, customer service, reception and office support and custo-dial work. To volunteer contact: [email protected]. Thank you for your support through the food and cash donations and to all the parishioner who already volunteer their services!
CROSS FLEECE BLANKET TYING EVENT
Each year CROSS sponsors a Christmas shopping event for those in need. An auditorium is filled with toys, games, books and stockings filled with donations from churches, toy drives, local businesses and private donors. Additionally, families are
given tied fleece blankets.
Last year there were not enough blankets for each family. Father Kaluza and your parish representatives to CROSS, Connie Ranallo and Mary Suter, invite all parishioners to
participate in a blanket tying event.
Sunday, November 24 Following the 8 & 10 am Masses Queen of Peace Gathering Space
FLEECE DONATIONS NEEDED
We are looking for donations of 1-2 or more yards of fleece for the blankets. Donations can be placed in the large CROSS
barrel located in the Parish Life Center or in the CROSS bin at St. Walburga, or bring with you the day of the event.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO TIE BLANKETS
Stop by after Mass to chat with old friends, meet new faces or make this a fun family event. Bring a friend or neighbor and a
pair of scissors. Many hands will make this a short and fun event that will benefit many within our community.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Mary Queen of Peace
Parish Strategy Sessions
Thank you to who all attended the first weekend of Parish Strategy Sessions! The next round of chat sessions will take place THIS WEEKEND, October 26-27, after all the Masses. The sessions range from 30-40 minutes long. We would love if you are able to join us and share your ideas/thoughts for the future of Mary Queen of Peace! The committee received great feedback and look forward to hearing from more parishioners in the weeks ahead! Some common themes coming out of week one sessions were: Strengths: Music Ministry, Education, Leadership (Church AND School), Funeral Committee, Welcoming Challenges: Encouraging school and religious education parents to take more active role in parish activities, maintaining two campuses, teen and young adult engagement, using contemporary music in Mass. After the committee has received feedback from all parishioners, they will develop goals for both our parish’s spiritual strategy and facilities and consider how we can deepen our faith as a community and continue to grow. We need to hear from you and understand your hopes, concerns and ideas for our parish moving forward. Some things we will be considering:
♦ What do you see as Mary Queen of Peace’s greatest strengths?
♦ What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing our MQP Faith Community?
♦ What do you hope to see as part of MQP’s faith community?
♦ How can we help you grow in your faith? If you were not able to attend one of the chat sessions, we will be sharing more information soon on how you can share your feedback!
