The Epiphany of the Lord January 5, 2020
Fr. Ma in
Dear Sisters and Brothers, This weekend we celebrate the Epiphany; the adoration of the Magi, the awakening of the wider world that something special, something wonderful has happened in the world. I could outline here a lot of wonderful platitudes of what the Christ Child means to me, us, and the world, but each individual must now come up with their own understanding and meaning of what the birth of Jesus means to them in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Will our journey to God be as short as the shepherds or as long and challenging as the Magi? It is your journey and you will meet many people along the way who will help you, many people who will distract you and many people who will purposefully try to throw you off course and lead you on a very different path. Be like the Magi, find your Star that brings you closer to God each day and follow it. Don’t let anyone deter or distract you. With the scheduling of the bulletins around the Christmas holidays most of them had to be printed before Christmas, so I never got the chance to thank some people for all they have done to make the Christmas period so wonderful. I would like to begin with thanking Jack and Peg Laciskey and their team of helpers for the wonderful work they did in arranging the flowers. To Mary Smith and Helene Shea and their team of helpers for the wonderful work they do in decorating the Chapel of Saints and changing the colors on the sanctuary for the different seasons. I personally, and the parish as a whole, truly appreciate all that you do. I’m not sure if you had the opportunity to attend our Christmas Carol Service the Sunday before Christmas, but if you weren't able to attend you missed a wonderful musical, scriptural and prayerful experience. A special thank you goes to our musical coordinator, Alfonso Gonzalez. Well done, you have set the bar very high. I also thank the musicians and the choirs from Holy Assumption and St Mary churches, our Cantors and all who took part. Thank you one and all. I know there is often a rush to take down the Christmas decorations after this weekend, but Christmas doesn’t officially end till January 12, The Baptism of the Lord. Our Crib will remain till then and from there on I hope the spirit of Christmas will live in all our hearts. I wish you all continued blessing for 2020. Love and prayers,

In today’s readings we hear how the magi followed the light and found the Savior of the world. The magi searched, encountered, worshiped him and offered gifts.
The pattern of our lives is that of the magi: seek, encounter, homage, self-giving. An important lesson here is that authentic homage (worship) naturally leads to living in the Light. But worship is more than what happens in church on Sunday. It is the light of our own selves that shines throughout our weekdays. Our very lives must proclaim our faith.
Believing always plays itself out in living.

On the second Sunday after Christmas we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. We recall the visit of the Magi to the newborn Jesus: “on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped him. (Matthew 2:9-11) The epiphany teaches us that Jesus’ coming into the world was important to the whole world and that the Good News of Jesus Christ is meant for everyone! -- For many Catholics, families would wait until the Epiphany before taking down their Christmas decorations. CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES DIOCESAN YOUTH CONFERENCE Inspired. “You are the light of the world.” MT 5:15 The Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC) is our yearly gathering for the youth of the Diocese of Trenton. It is an opportunity for our teens to encounter Jesus through the joyful celebration of our Catholic Faith, dynamic presentations, and the opportunity to connect with other young Catholics beyond our parish. Our teens will encounter Jesus in Adoration, Confession, Dr. Alex Gotay (Dr. G who combines his unique perspective with his passion, humor, and creativity to communicate the good news) and the Closing Liturgy with Bishop O’Connell.
