James Meredith is the first black student to begin at the University Mississippi in the American south. This results in riots and president Kennedy have to send in the army... 5000 federal troops!

Assassinated Martin Luther King Jr. is shot when standing on a balcony outside
his hotel room, April 4 1968. He was only 39 years old.
