• a state administration body subordinated to the Ministry of Industry andTrade of the Czech Republic
• the head of the CTIA is the Director General
• financed by the state budget
• approx. 460 employees
• consists of the Central Inspectorate (CI) and 7 Regional Inspectorates (RI)
• CI provides the RIs with management and supervision, as well asmethodical guidance
• the CTIA checks both individuals (entrepreneurs) and legal entities whoare placing products on the market and providing services or carryingout other similar activities on the internal market, or providingconsumer credits, unless another authority carries out supervision underspecial regulations (Act No. 64/1986 Coll., on the Czech Trade InspectionAuthority)

• ban sales, distribution or use of goods that violate special legalrequirements
• impose a protective measure (temporary or permanent ban fromplacing the product on the market, to order economic operators toinform consumers endangered by the product (via media)

• internal regulations include Guidelines for Inspectiono prepared for RIs by Product Area Guarantor at CI (Section of
Methodology and Inspection Support) that is in charge of the individualareas of inspections (machinery, LVD, toys, packaging etc.)
o they cover the relevant legislation and point out potential difficulties thatmay occur during inspections
