Industrial Projects = Collaborative Projects
Enterprises and ASTUTE 2020 share:
• Inputs in form of e.g. staff time, materials, equipment etc.
• Outputs in form of e.g. IP, know-how etc.
• Risk
• Outputs are being shared in proportion to inputs
• No cash changes hands
• Proposals for collaborative RD&I projects will be developed by the industrial partner together with a dedicated ASTUTE 2020 technical manager.

Impact of Collaborations
Impacts realised as a result of ASTUTE 2020 projects:
• Attracting private investment• Job creation / Jobs safeguarded• Incorporation of spin out companies• Development of products, process and services• Investment in new equipment• Reduction in cycle time on machines• Reduction of weight in components• Environmental Impacts – reduction of power consumption
Who Can ASTUTE 2020 Support?
Manufacturing companies in Wales across a variety of sectors, including:
• Marine• Aerospace, • Automotive, • Energy generation, • Oil and Gas, • Medical Devices, • Electronics and • Food etc.
Companies outside of Wales can be considered if the economic benefit of the RD&I project is realised in Wales in a bigger partnership.

Marine Industry Collaborations
Current ASTUTE 2020 (2015 – 2020) marine industry collaborations:
1. Divemex Ltd. & CSM Pressing Ltd.
Three ways collaboration: ASTUTE 2020 + Divemex + CSM
• Anchor Dragging Evaluation
• New maritime tidal anchor, assisting with the evaluation of the innovative new product
• Highly commended in the European Commercial Marine Awards
Marine Industry Collaborations
2. Camplas Technology Ltd.
• Wave generator flotation device
• Teamed up locally with Marine Power Systems Ltd. to manufacture a custom GRP tank to be used as a floater in a novel marine power system to be used to harvest wave energy.
• The proposed floater has to sustain high level of external pressure when immersed in sea water and take the loads imposed by the dynamic anchoring system.

Advanced Manufacturing Survey
Complete the Survey here: www.tinyurl.com/SwanseaSIAPurpose: This survey seeks to understand how businesses in Wales currently use smart manufacturing technologies across
their manufacturing activities.
Background: The UK Government industrial strategy identified the need for industry and academia to collaboratively develop,
demonstrate and accelerate the uptake of smart manufacturing technologies in order to maintain competitiveness.
Summary: Smart Manufacturing is essentially the convergence of advanced manufacturing techniques with information
technology, data, and analytics, in a real time integrated fashion, to achieve the most efficient methods of production,
creating value in new and different ways:
Advanced Manufacturing + Industrial Digital Technologies => Smart Manufacturing
Smart Manufacturing + Energy Technologies => Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Smart Manufacturing
