How to Choose the BEST School for your Child
How do you pick the best school for your child? Whether you are choosing a public or private school or homeschooling, careful planning is a must. Remember, you are looking for a school that will make the educational experience for your child and you as rewarding as possible.
Factors to Consider: Choosing a school is a complex decision that includes the characteristics of the child, family, and schools. School quality depends on many characteristics, not all easily measurable, and not all equally important for each individual child or family. Parents may want to consider the following characteristics when evaluating a school.
Child characteristics: Parents will want to consider their child’s learning style, personality and any special needs. Does your child prefer to explore and take responsibility for their own learning, or will the structure of a traditional school setting help them reach their full potential? Does your child respond differently in small groups versus large groups? If your child benefits from small group interaction you may want to consider a school that uses this instructional strategy. characteristics: Aside from the primary considerations such as transportation and tuition costs, and quality of education, a family’s choice of school depends on the family’s values. Some opt for a faith-based school while others with close ties to their community opt for the public institution.
School characteristics/philosophy: Ask the schools you’re considering to provide a statement of philosophy or mission statement. This gives parents an insight to the school’s educational approaches and programs.
Instructional approaches: Your child’s learning style should be taken into consideration when choosing instructional approaches. A school with a traditional structure may be a good choice for some children that need clear standards and expectations. While a school that permits extra

freedom and places more responsibility for learning on the child may be more beneficial for other children.
Curriculum: Does the school’s curriculum match your expectations and goals for your child’s education? As discussed previously, a child’s learning style should match the style of curriculum offered by the school. Looking at the curriculum, visiting classes and reading the school’s report card are ways to find out how well the school addresses core subjects such as reading, writing and mathematics.

Egg Carton Flowers and VaseFor the Vase you’ll need:Empty bottle or jar Shoe PolishMasking tape Cloth Rag
Completely cover your clean glass bottle, with torn or cut pieces of masking tape. Making sure that the pieces of tape overlap each other. With an old rag, rub the shoe polish into the tape. Leave to dry. Fill with flowers or a plant.
Tips...Younger children should not participate in the shoe polish stage. Sometimes a second rubbing or glossing adds to the beauty.
Egg Carton FlowersAdd these home made flowers to your newly created vase!If you have an older and younger child, they can work as a team. The eldest can make the vase and your little one can paint the flowers.
For the Flowers you’ll need:Cardboard egg cartonpaint or markersPipe Cleaners
Cut the cups away from the rest of the egg carton.Cut 4 - 6 petals on each flower so that is resembles a tulip.
Bend and curl petals anyway you think looks best. Poke a hole through the center of the cup. Thread the pipe cleaner trough the hole and knot to create the stem. Use more Pipe cleaners to bend and shape leaves then attach to stem by twisting on. You are now ready to decorate your flower with paint or markers.
