Q,A& N4e4Managing Editor: Pastor John Luginbuhi Editor: Susan Nixon May 2014
From the Pastor’s Desk
It’s an exciting time of year! With AWANA coming to a close for another school year, school taking a break for the
Summer, graduations taking place and the weather getting nicer, there is an anticipation of Summer with all of its
opportunities.... being outdoors more, camp, weddings, conferences, baligames, vacations, etc.! Lots of things going on!
In the middle of all of this, let us not forget the One Who makes all of this possible: our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
The Psalmist says (Ps. 121:1, 2), “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains, from where shall my help come? My help comes
from the Lord, Who made Heaven and Earth.” Make sure you read all eight verses of this psalm - a wonderful psalm
about the Lord watching over us and helping us wherever we go and in whatever we do! Wherever we find ourselves
during these Summer months, our Lord is with us, guiding, guarding, providing.... He never takes a vacation from us! Let
us all be sure not to take a vacation from Him! Let us continue to read His Word, continue to share our faith in Christ,
continue to work for the advancement of His Kingdom, continue to trust Him fully, continue to follow and obey Him,
continue to worship Him, continue to fellowship with His people, continue to minister to people in His Name. Let us, in
the Summer months ahead, be willing to be used by Him to accomplish His purposes! He is faithful!

DID YOU KNOW?
Why are hot Summer days called, “dog days”? Answer: The ancient Romans believed that the six or eight hottest days
of the Summer were caused by the Dog Star, “Sirius”, rising with the sun and adding its heat to the day. They called
these days, “cuniculares dies” — “dog days”.
What is the origin of the baseball term, “double header”? Answer: Baseball took the term “double header” from
railroading! In railroading, a “double header” is a train with two engines on it. Hence, in baseball, a “double header” is
two games in a single afternoon!
Why does the letter K signify a strikeout on a baseball score sheet? Answer: Early in baseball history, a man named
Henry Chadwick designed the system we still use for keeping score. Because his system already had an abundance of S’s
scattered throughout his score sheet — safe, slide, shortstop, sacrifice, second base, etc. — he decided to use the last
letter of the word, “struck”, as in, “he struck out”, rather than the first letter. And that’s why we use “K” today for a
strikeout!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR GRADUATES! WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU!
KEEP TRUSTING AND FOLLOWING THE LORD JESUS IN ALL THAT YOU DO!
