Save-a-MateYEAR 11 Nuriootpa High Health studentstook part in a Red Cross program called`Save-a-Mate'.

The campaign provides support toyoung people and promotes health andwellbeing through education on keyhealth issues.

Presenters from the Red Cross,Chanelle and Damien spoke on first aidfor drug and alcohol emergencies andthe issues confronting young peopletoday and what to watch out for.

They also examined the long and short

term affects on the human body of bothalcohol and drugs. The class also tookpart in a practical demonstration on howto help a mate if they are affected.

"Students have developed essentialskills for keeping healthy and have reallyenjoyed the variety of learning activities,"said organising Year 11 Health teacherAngela Travers.

"Thanks to school counsellor KarenBarry who applied for and won a grantfrom the Youth Barossa Small Grantsfund and her support of this program."
