MAGGI Kitchen Showdown 2014
Terms and Conditions
1. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these terms and conditions.
2. Schools will be invited by the Promoter to nominate a Team of 4 students to participate in the
MAGGI Intermediate School Kitchen Showdown Competition, (“Competition”). The promoter will
select up to 12 schools to compete in each of 3 Regional Finals at their absolute discretion.
3. Important Competition Dates are as follows
a. Competition opens on Monday 5 May 2014.
b. Applications may be posted or submitted electronically via www.kitchenshowdown.co.nz
c. Applications to participate close last mail delivered on Friday 4 July 2014 or at midnight on that
date for electronic entries. Any entry received by the Promoter after the close date will not be
eligible enter.
d. Regional Finals will occur on the following dates:
Northern Region (includes schools including and north of Taupo) on Wednesday 3 September
2014 at Auckland Seafood School, Level 1 / 22-23 Jellicoe Road, Auckland.
Central Region (includes schools south of Taupo to Wellington) on Thursday 4 September
2014 in Petone at the Weltec Campus.
Southern Region (includes all schools in the South Island) on Friday 5 September 2014 in
Timaru at Aoraki Polytechnic, 32 Arthur Street, Timaru.
e. National Final will be held in Christchurch on Tuesday 16 September 2014. (The 3 Teams
chosen as finalists will be required to fly to Christchurch the day before the National Final to
participate in a cooking session at Ronald McDonald House that evening.)
4. Each school may enter more than one Team, though no more than one team representing a single
school will be chosen to compete in the Regional Final. The Teacher completing the application
form will be deemed the “Team Leader” for the purpose of all correspondence regarding the
conduct of this competition. Applications must be sent on the official form to “MAGGI Kitchen
Showdown”, PO Box 97636, South Auckland Mail Centre, Auckland or electronically via the
competition website www.kitchenshowdown.co.nz. The Team Leader along with the nominated
Team members must:
a. Provide a completed Application Form; and
b. Create a Team name; and
c. Submit in the space provided on the application form an original main course meal recipe for a
family of 4, (2 adults & 2 children), which includes the use of at least one MAGGI product from
the list supplied to demonstrate a knowledge of the MAGGI product range. The cost of
ingredients to make the meal must not exceed $20 in total, (validation of total cost will be
required).
d. Provide a brief description in the application form of what the school would use the $5,000
prize for if their Team won the Competition.
e. Attach a digital photo file of the team and of the completed recipe. This can be included with
the posted application form or emailed to the MAGGI representative who contacts you.
f. Attach a signed School Consent Form (or a scanned copy for electronic entry); and
g. Attach the signed Release Form for each Team member (or a scanned copy for electronic
entry).
5. The Team leader of each of the 12 Teams selected from each Region will be invited to participate
in the Regional Final Elimination Competition via telephone or email. Each Team Leader will be
provided with a $50 supermarket voucher of their choice to be used to purchase ingredients for
their Team to practice with and to bring along to the Regional Final. Participating Teams must
make their own travel arrangements at their own expense to attend their Regional Final.
6. Each Team Member must fit the following criteria:
a. be a student currently enrolled in year 7 or 8 at the school and aged either 10, 11 ,12 or 13
years old as at Sunday 31 August 2014; and
b. be available if their Team is selected to attend their Regional Final on the date specified in
point 3(d) above, (and also the National Final on the date specified in point 3(e) above).
Each Team member must provide a completed parent/guardian consent form to their Team Leader
on the form required by the Promoter which consents that the child may participate in the
Competition, including being filmed to appear on television and participating in other publicity
surrounding the Competition.
7. The successful 36 schools selected to compete in the three Regional Finals will be contacted
during the week commencing Monday 21 July 2014 and will also be revealed on The 4.30 Show
that week. The Promoter will confirm when a Team has been accepted in the competition by
telephone to the Team Leader and each Team’s name and school will also appear at
www.kitchenshowdown.co.nz by no later than Friday 25 July 2014.
8. Regional Final competitions will be managed by a process of elimination. All 12 teams in each
Region will compete in a randomly selected order by preparing and cooking the main meal that
they have submitted with their entry to the competition. The competition judges will grade each
school using a published set of judging criteria supplied to each school. The school that receive the
judges’ highest score will represent their region at the National Final. The name of the Team
winning each Regional Final will be announced on The 4.30 show.
9. A total of three Teams, one from each Regional Final, will be selected to compete at the National
Final in Christchurch on Tuesday 16 September 2014. The 3 Teams chosen as finalists will be
required to fly to Christchurch during the day on Monday 15 September 2014 and participate in a
cook up at Ronald McDonald House that evening before the National Final the following day.
10. The Regional Finals will be televised on The 4.30 Show on or about the following dates: Tuesday
16 September 2014 (Northern Region); Thursday 18 September 2014 (Central Region) and
Tuesday 23 September (Southern Region). The names of the 3 Teams representing each Region
will appear on the website www.the430show.co.nz and www.kitchenshowdown.co.nz after the
broadcast of the program. Each Team Leader will be provided with a $100 supermarket voucher of
their choice to be used to purchase ingredients for their Team to practice with and to bring along to
the National Final.
11. The National Final will be managed by a process of elimination in a similar way to each Regional
Final. A different meal to the one prepared in the Regional Final will need to be cooked and it must
also meet the recipe requirements (ie. a family dinner meal for 2 adults and 2 children, cost under
$20, and must use at least one MAGGI product and three additional ingredients which will be
specified in advance of the National Final).
12. The National Final will be televised on The 4.30 Show on or about Thursday 25 September 2014.
The programme content will be at the Promoter’s discretion.
13. The prizes that will be awarded at the National Final will be paid to the winning school as either a
bank cheque or as an electronic funds deposit into the school’s nominated bank account as follows:
a. The winning team will win the major prize of $5,000 for their school; and
b. The 2 runner-up Teams will each win $1,000 for their schools.
14. This competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the identity of the
winning Teams.
15. All entries and supporting materials become the property of the Promoter and will not be returned.

visiting www.nestle.co.nz or calling 0800 830 840. Documentation relating to filming and/or
broadcast will be collected and held by producers of The Erin Simpson Show.
16. By entering the competition, each participating Team Leader and each Team member’s
parent/guardian must agree that:
a. all intellectual property rights, including copyright, in any recipe created by the entrant in a
Regional or National Final will vest in the Promoter from the date of its creation. The Promoter
may use the recipe for its own commercial purposes and agree not to object to any such use
on the basis of any moral right; and
b. if the Team is selected to compete at the National Final each Team member and the Team
Leader will be asked to participate in publicity and promotion of the Competition as required by
the Promoter. The Promoter will request their support in the form of comments for press
releases, photographs, video, media interviews, radio and television appearances.
17. Unruly or rude behaviour or failure to follow directions of the Promoter during the course of the
Regional or National Final will not be tolerated. Any Team member behaving in such a manner will
be immediately disqualified (along with their Team members) from the competition, at the
Promoter’s absolute discretion.
18. The Promoter will provide accommodation, meals and reasonable travel costs associated with
participating in the National Final. These costs will cover each of the 4 Team members plus 2
guardians. Additional costs such as travel insurance and any other ancillary cost is the
responsibility of each nominating school and the parent/guardian of each Team member.
19. The decision of the Promoter’s judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
20. The Promoter is not liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered, (including but not
limited to indirect or consequential loss), or for personal injury suffered or sustained during the
course of participating in the competition, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
