Window Awnings that Reflect up to 70% of the Heat & Save Energy

nuisance letting in heat when you don’t need it or leaking away as much as 40% of
your home heating or cooling energy.
Each degree lower that a home air conditioner operates at can save up to 10% of
energy cooling costs
These problems can be reduced through the installation using one of the following

Important Information
WRINKLES PRODUCED BY FOLDING
If awnings are folded during their manufacture, creases may appear that,
when viewed in the cross-light and especially with light colours, seem to be
streaks of dirt.
RIPPLES ALONG THE SEAMS
The awning fabric is generally made up to the required width from rolls of
fabric and as a result the fabric is double thickness at the seams.
When the awning is rolled up and opened the double thickness at seams,
along the width of the fabric, may produce stretching and a slight waviness.
These irregularities appear more pronounced in lighter coloured fabrics
AWNING FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS
The manufacture of fabric is strictly monitored in order to achieve premium quality. However, the sewn fabric in finished
awnings, certain irregularities may appear that are inherent to the manufacturing process itself. These “visual anomalies”
do not diminish product quality and cannot be regarded as defects and therefore cannot serve as the basis for a claim.
Page No. 15 Awning Product Manual: File No. 60.01 - V1.01, 18th January 2017
Blinds, Curtains, Awnings & Security
FABRIC WAVERING
Straight drop & folding arm awnings will roll up reasonably evenly but like any
large blind it will show fabric wavering, this is because it is impossible to make
a large piece of fabric hang perfectly flat. This generally appears on awnings
wider than 2,000mm and or drops greater than 3,000mm.
RAILROADING
Check for fabrics that may be railroaded particularly for straight drop blinds.
Always inform the client that larger widths that are railroaded WILL wave &
ripple.
FABRIC SEAM POSITIONS
Check the fabric width to determine if there will be any seams. Particularly if
using Sunscreen fabric. Standard seams are vertical & the position of seams
& any impact to views MUST be discussed with the customer & the position of
seams should be specified & approved.

2. Brown = Live (Direction)
3. Green/Yellow = Earth
Important Safety Note
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION; Should always be carried out by an Authorised and Qualified Electrical Contractor
Please be aware that when programming or operating a folding arm awning motor that after continuous operation for
approximately 4 minutes, a built in thermal overload switch will temporarily stop the motor & protect it from permanent
damage due to overheating. The motor will resume operating after a short cooling period, approximately 20 minutes
At 3 metre projection it takes 1 minute to open an awning so if the motor is operated continuously it would trip out
after opening & closing twice

Measuring Guidelines Before Quoting, Measuring & Installing Awnings

Blinds, Curtains, Awnings & Security
NOTE; Factory make to exact measurements on order form – NO deductions are made when ordered
Check for any obstructions that would interfere with the correct installation and proper operation of the
awning, such as;
Electrical power lines, down pipes, light fittings, opening doors, façade features, clothes lines, trees etc
Stairwell or lift access if required for installation
Special attention needs to be taken to assess the quality of the surface for installation.
Beware of poor construction, loose brickwork, and soft or hollow wall sections.
Any cladded walls should have sufficient structure behind cladding for anchoring the awning.
Allow for timber batten or bracing strengthening if required.
1. Determine the width to be covered with the client. Is extra window overlap required for western sun
2. Critical dimensions to take into account & check are;
a) Overall finished awning width including side end caps.
a) Clearance above window lintel for awning hood & top tube to fit
b) Fabric is never as wide as the measurements provided

Guidelines for Safe Awning Use Folding Arm Awnings
To ensure the longest possible life, with minimum maintenance, we recommend following
simple rules:-
The awning is not recommended as a rain or wind awning.
DO NOT leave an awning out unattended, if no responsible person is home to bring the awning in if
the weather changes, or in blustery or, high winds, or if storms are approaching.
If awning controls are connected to a Wind Sensor be aware that a wind sensor will not provide full
protection against sudden gusts of winds. It is possible, after a Wind Sensor is activated, & sends a
signal for the awning to close, for the awning to suffer damage, during the time it takes to close.
To drain properly, fabric awnings must have a minimum 20 degree slope. If the slope is less, water
pockets or “ponding” may occur when it is raining and care should be taken to avoid damage to the
frame.
CLOSE THE AWNING in wet weather even if the fabric is wet. Only open the awning to dry the
fabric when the weather improves.
